The search for collegiate heroes begins this Saturday, July 10, as the UAAP opens its 73rd Season. De La Salle University (DLSU), who’s celebrating its centenary this year, will be hosting the opening ceremonies to be held at Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

This year’s theme, “Where Heroes Are Made” is inspired by President Noynoy Aquino’s acceptance of the presidency and victory in the elections. Chosen heroes from the eight universities that make the UAAP will be parading during the opening program.  There’s no word yet on who the representatives for each university will be but DLSU President Bro. Bernie Oca said that they will not highlight basketball, which is the centerpiece of UAAP, but other sports that showcase the talent of many “unsung heroes.”

The opening ceremonies will be immediately followed at 2pm by the opening match between the DLSU Green Archers and the UP Maroons on the hard court.  The game will be followed by the 4PM match between the UST Growling Tigers and the UE Red Warriors.

UAAP athlete Enchong Dee will be performing in the opening program along with Gary V. and Ogie Alcasid. Noted film director Marc Reyes will be helming the program. The games will be aired in Studio 23 and Balls HD. Replays of games will be aired in Balls Channel 34.

Watch the country’s best teams: Adamson Falcons, Ateneo Blue Eagles, FEU Tamaraws, La Salle Green Archers, NU Bulldogs, UE Red Warriors, UP Fighting Maroons, and UST Growling Tigers.
