Pacquiao Wins Over Cotto (by technical knock out)!!!

UPDATE!

‘Twas a dream no more. Manny Pacquiao yet again, was an animal full of fury in the ring—beat Miguel Cotto to a pulp, face bloodied, till the referee called a stop to the game, 55 seconds into the 12th and final round, a technical knock out.

Manny was speed to the nth, a genius—I guess he was not just fighting. He was using his brain, putting into action the strategies that he and his team have all laid out for this fight. It was intelligence and power. He now is a holder of 7 titles in different weight classes, the latest being World Welterweight Champion of the World Boxing Association.

TRIVIA: The Diamond Belt from the WBO is reportedly studded with 400 diamonds, to the cost of about $50,000.

Cotto fought well but he was not at all a match to Manny’s strength and power. He was just in a survival mode, face bloodied, as he kept back-pedaling, running away from Manny, exasperating Manny in the last final rounds (see how Manny’s shoulders dropped and relaxed in the end of the 11th round?). The last few rounds were not like a boxing game anymore—they were like “come and catch me” on the part of Cotto. His main reason must have been to protect his pride, to say that he did not lose because of a knock out. Still, however you put it—Cotto LOST BIGTIME and PACQUIAO WON—BIG TIME!

When interviewed, Manny thanked God for the victory and fame, and his fans who have been supporting him through the years (and that was after he knelt on his knees before being proclaimed WINNER, I suppose to thank his Maker.) It was Cotto who brought him up from his knees to acknowledge defeat and congratulate him. Cotto must be lucky to fight this greatest pound for pound fighter. Manny said the next thing he would do after the victory party is be with his family and relax. The next fight would be up to his team to decide.

And where in the world can you find a boxing champ, smiling like a little boy, blowing kisses to his fans before the fight. But I tell you, the moment he steps in the ring, his face changes—he is not a little boy—he is an animal in the form of a man, fierce, ready to fight and eat his rival alive.

Thank you, Manny, you have made the Pinoy proud once again.

Another of my dreams came true!

And thanks Smart! There was no need to spend a lot of money just to watch the fight live on the big screen. The important thing was—we were all together in routing for Manny. We did not have to be in different places on a lazy Sunday morning (as some of the kids didn’t want to go out to watch the game). Thanks, too, ESPN for the punch by punch analysis and the recap.

Written in the early morning of 15 November a few hours before the Pacquiao-Cotto fight.

And that was my dream as I woke up early in the morning, my heart pounding in excitement and pride. I realized it was only a dream, but even then, I was happy. I can dream, can’t I? Anyone can dream.

In a few hours, Manny Pacquiao will be in the ring again, in his true fighting form. Again, the streets not only of Manila, but of the whole country, will be quiet and empty, crime rate will be zero, and every Filipino here and abroad will be routing for the only male in the history of the Philippines to have landed the cover of TIME Magazine (the other Filipino being the former Pres. Corazon Aquino). There will be PEACE in the country—even for a few hours only.

Again, in very rare moments, the Pinoy will be one, regardless of creed, belief, age, political color, and status in society. Again, the Pinoy will be proud (we should always be proud because each of us Pinoy has our own talents—see how Pinoys have excelled here and abroad. Though of course, the Pinoy is known for a lot of extremes—the  most negative of the extremes is the Philippines being one of the most corrupt in the word, with a few of its former leaders (and new leaders coming soon in the list?) being in the list of the top most corrupt personalities in the world. There are a lot of good ones, though, the Pinoy is very intelligent, the Pinoy excels in a lot of things (look at Charice Pempengco, Arnel Pineda, and a lot more), etc., etc.

But what the heck! For once, I will savor the moment when the Pinoy is one in cheering Manny! Manny! Manny! And the truth is, after the big WIN, just days after or perhaps weeks, the country will again be divided, with the 2010 elections coming up—the different politicians fiercely fighting it out in their campaigns, and the poor Pinoy in the streets eking it out for a living—survival the Pinoy way.

Yes, the elections will be dirty, there will be clouds of doubt, with the monied, the corrupt and the power greedy lording it over in the polls, whatever it takes, regardless of and despite of—and this folks will be another story.

In the meantime, let me cheer, Manny! Manny! Manny! and that is, of course, for the real Manny—Manny Pacquiao! (lol)
