Again, we were at the Araneta last Sunday. It was easy to get tickets this time, because the games were only that of ADMU vs UP and UE vs ADU. Since there were not many people in the Coliseum, we got a better chance to see the games up close, unlike during championship rounds and ADMU-DLSU games when even general admission tickets are so scarce.
And we came to see Chris Tiu play, up close and personal. He is such a refreshing sight to behold in the court and outside, a warm and friendly person, always smiling, the goodness in his heart apparent, a reliable player that he has anchored his team to win so many games in the UAAP. During Ateneo games, and he is not on the court, me and my kids feel like saying, “I can’t smile without TIU.”
Here are some interesting personal details about Chris Tiu, the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ team captain and point guard. This wily veteran (his fifth year now) has excellent vision, and sees the game like no other player can.

.
Chris has a blog, called CHRIS’ BLOG. What makes him blog?
- to have the opportunity to share another side of himself
- to be able to express his thoughts and get feedback from people who might want to give their comments
- to document milestones of his life or even just his random thoughts
- to share experiences and reveal lessons learned, so that others can learn from them too.
One of Chris Tiu’s greatest dreams: to watch a Michael Jordan game live, or even just see him in person.
What makes him busy nowadays aside from UAAP?
- He is taking up Applied Math and Finance as his 2nd major. He became interested in Investment Banking because of his internship at Credit Suisse in the summer of 2006, however he is thinking twice because of the volatility and weakness of the whole global financial system—as seen through the financial crisis in the US, and because of the many other options being opened to him.
- Chris is taking a lot of Chinese classes in Ateneo, and considering about studying in China for a while after the season. He listens to Chinese music day and night, in his car and at home to help improve his Mandarin to the horror of his brother Charles who shares a room with him. He is a huge fan of Jay Chou and loves siging his songs in the karaoke
- Host of GMA7’s “Ripley’s Believe it or Not:
- Official spokesperson of Volvo for their Youth Leadership Program which is part of their corporate social responsibility.
What makes Chris sad?
- the brazen corruption of many who are supposed to serve in public office
- how we Filipinos have become so tolerant of injustice and oppression, and how we do not challenge ourselves enough, and easily let ourselves off the hook
- how many have given up integrity to claim their share of the booty that the powerful dangle before them
- so many of our people have to leave their homes and their families, in search of employment overseas, because the country could not offer them opportunity.
- the acts of violence all around, from the violence of the criminal, to the violence in Mindanao, to the violence of poverty and hunger and inequality and mis-education.
- the greed of those who abuse power, and selfishly cling to it at any cost.
There you go, more next time.

He’s really talented aside from playing basketball for Ateneo!
He’s that good-looking. Everytime I see him play, I always thought how Chris Tiu is such a very lucky guy. He’s so handsome and he’s a basketball star, at a very young age.
