I said these on 26 December 2008, the first time this blog post was published, “You have no right to say “I am sorry” on my behalf.”
In deference to the passing away of our dear and beloved President Corazon Aquino, I humbly retract what I said. She must have reasons for saying those words. She must have the healing of the nation in mind. She must have the reconciliation of all sides of the political coin in mind. I have realized and learned from the many speeches and sharings these past few days that our beloved President Cory does not do and say things just to please her whims. She is one spiritual person whose every action is well thought of and prayed about.
Dear Tita Cory, I am truly sorry for immediately reacting, perhaps because I was too frustrated with all that was happening around us, with all the evils and corruptions that we saw and continue to see. You know more than any one of us does. Yes, Tita, you know what is good for the nation—forgiveness and reconciliation first, though we are very impatient, not seemingly seeing any of the fruits of your labor, the real benefits that the every Filipino truly deserves. Now, we wait—now that you are closer to God, you will be our intercessor.
And thank you! Thank you for leading us toward democracy. Thank you for giving us a spark of hope—that we Filipinos will be delivered out of this deep pit. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for being a good example to all of us. And thank you for making us proud to be Filipinos.
We love you, Tita Cory.

“You have no right to say “I am sorry” on my behalf.”
But please—let us stop all these politicking and be ONE in healing our land.

You may say “I am sorry” in your personal capacity and perhaps on behalf of your family, but please, not on my behalf, for which you have no right to do so.
Reminiscent of another infamous “I am sorry”. Hello, G…

After I participated in EDSA 1 and saw what happened to the Philippines under Cory’s watch, I stopped spousing mob rule, aka people power.

I think what you said at that time is a feeling shared by a lot of people. I guess in reality, we become more understanding on the actions of the person as we get to know them better.
