Will More Lozadas Stand Up, Please?

Most senators, maybe all, believe in the credibility of Jun Lozada (Rodolfo Noel Lozada, Jr). He has passed what Sen Miriam called a credibility test. He has been invited by the Senate for a hearing on corruption charges involving the FG and his cohorts. His answers have been candid and consistent, the way the senators saw it, the way I saw it. In the beginning, he was Mr Fear himself, until after speaking up, naming names, unravelling the mystery, giving away the names of those in power that be, he found himself relaxing, loosening up a bit. There is truth in the saying that “The truth will set one free.” And typical of a Filipino, humor was there in between, with Jun Lozada’s witty answers to hide his fear. Now, would anyone want to compare Lozada’s hearing to that of Abalos?

If only People Power have not been overused, if only the other People Powers had their impact, now is the time for people to say, ENOUGH! Now is the time to DEMAND for the NEEDED CHANGE.

The poor have become poorer and many in number, while an expanding diaspora of the best of the country’s professionals (even the menial laborer, caregiver, domestic helper) has been threatening the local economy—a brain drain. With migration, families of the so called “new heroes” have been, and are in the verge of collapsing. The sacrifies they have to bear—away from families, working through different cultures, working in harsh conditions, not being able to go to church for those who are in non-Christian countries, and many many more. The country is in a mess, while the powers that be get to enjoy the power and material benefits of their grand theivery.

Jun Lozada was left with no choice but to tell what he knew, his involvement, and most of all the involvement of other administration biggies, you know who the biggest is. He has cried unabashedly in front of national television. I felt for him, I too had quietly shed some tears, felt for his wife and children, for them to go through all this trauma. It will take quite a while for them to live normal lives again. But the question is, will all this be worth it? Jun Lozada himself said, after all these, what? He is just an ordinary person. Will whatever he said matter? Will he just be contained in a small box, smaller if cremated after this? I shudder at the thought.

I just hope more witnesses will stand up—more people who would like to save whatever remaining respect they have for themselves. The country needs you, we need you. It’s high time for more Lozadas to stand up. It is high time for Filipinos to fight for the truth. It is high time for Filipinos to rise from this web of lies, corruption, and greed. It is time for CHANGE!

Guilty or not, the credibility of the current administration has been in question, IS IN QUESTION. Oh yes, power—it eats up one person alive, makes a monster of a lamb if not handled well.
