It’s Sunday, let’s take a break and look for the missing P1 (one peso).
This email was received in Tagalog, but I will translate it to English the best way that I can.
You found a nice shirt at SM Department Store. It costs P100, but you do not have any money. You go home and borrow P50 from your mother and P50 from your father.
QUESTION: How much is your money?
ANSWER: P100, of course
You went back to SM and bought the shirt for P97
QUESTION: How much Was your change?
ANSWER: P3
You gave back P1 to your father and P1 to your mother.
QUESTION: How much did you owe your father? And how much did you owe your mother?
ANSWER: P49 from your father and P49 from your mother
The P1 is with you, ok? Now here is the mind-boggler. P49 (from your father) + P49 (from your mother) = P98.
P98 (what you owed your father and mother) + P1 (the money in your hands) = P99
And here is the FINAL QUESTION: where is the other P1? (Referencing to the P100 in the first question).
Remember, this is only the missing P1–what about the missing millions of dollars in our government coffers? LOL
Know what? I know the answer, but c’mon, let me know your thoughts, you might have a better answer. Tell me, where is the missing P1? or would you rather tell me–where are the missing millions of dollars in our government coffers?

dine,
i owed my father -50
my mother -50
i gave back 1 peso to both of them
-50 + 1 = -49
-50 + 1 = -49
————–
-98 amount I owed dad and mom
+ 1 (i have in my hand)
————-
-97 amount i paid for my shirt
correct?

Hmm, if I spent 97 for the shirt then that means the cost per parent is 48.5 and that I owe them 1.5 each. And since I gave them 1 peso each already, that means I owe them .50 na lang or in total, 1 which is the amount i have in my pocket.

Hahah! Tricky, eh?
The amount owed to each parent, P49, multiplied by 2 is equal to P98. The P2 given back to the parents should be the one added to P98 to get the original P100.
It is incorrect to add the P1 you still have to what is still owed to the parents. The total amount owed to the parents is still P97 (cost of shirt) + P1 (the one you have) = P98.
As for the missing millions of dollars, you don’t need a scientist. You need a magician.

Total Cost: 97.00
Loan Dad: -49.00
Loan Mom: -49.00
Cash onhand -1.00
Total: 0.00

I must admit, this was more confusing in Tagalog. My bro sent that to me too and that stopped me from what I was doing then
