It now sinks in—for a while I have forgotten Michael Jackson, especially after all the scandals and the eccentricities that have beset his career and persona. But deep in my heart, I have longed for his comeback and for him to rise above all the hullabaloo. It was amazing how he got out of his legal battles, it was sad to hear about his finances and health, and every now and then not so nice news of him would surface—until the shocking news that he died. Watching CNN and playing his songs on YouTube somehow pinched my heart.
Michael Jackson has been part of my youth—how can I not say that I grew up with him when it was during my early teens that the the Jackson 5 have begun hitting the airwaves—with the unforgettable Ben and I’ll Be There, two songs I knew by heart way back then, until now. Ben brings me back to my imaginative and innocent youth while I’ll Be There to my passionate, idealistic and again, innocent, youth.
With the 80’s (my early 20’s) I started raising my young family amidst Michael Jackson’s many hits. He has become a household name, his hits household fare, and his moonwalk that many had tried to emulate, a household stunt.
And during the 90’s and the 2000’s, when we no longer had to wait for exclusive television programs to watch his concerts and listen to his music—all we needed were to buy or rent CDs/DVDs or go to the Internet and watch them on YouTube.
1958 to 2009—50 years of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop—a golden era.
He’s at peace now—he must be in a different kind of Neverland. And he will forever be an icon in the hearts of many.

I wrote a blog entry about him too. Writing an article about Michael Jackson brings back the memories of my very colorful childhood. He will be missed.
