It has been very cold the past few days, even before the holidays. Some of us like it cold, but not too cold. Like you and me, we have tried our best to keep warm. Those of us who have kids, and babies for that matter, see to it that they are warm, even huddled close to us.
But what about the babies at CRIBS? They have no mothers to give them attention, to keep them warm one-on-one. They have their patient and loving caregivers, who dress them up in their sweaters and pjyamas, but not to to keep them the whole evening cuddled in their arms. There are only 3 of them for 30 infants, crawlers and toddlers–on duty in the evenings, feeding them, changing their diapers, giving medicines to those who are sick, putting to sleep those who are awake and crying. Such a great responsibility for the caregivers.
This is the reason why volunteers are welcome to come, 9-11 am and 2-4 pm, Monday-Sunday. These kids feel it in their hearts, extend their hands wanting to be carried and shown affection to as soon as they see visitors coming. It’s so touching not only to extend warmth and care, but to feel welcome and liked by the kids. I have seen a lot of parents, students, guys and gals who come to CRIBS not knowing what to expect, not knowing what to do, but as the minutes tick away, they soften out to the kids, and treat them as though they were their own. I have seen the volunteers enjoy every minute of the 2 hours they are privileged to see the kids and be with them. For me, it is a privilege, not only an act of charity, because being with the kids at CRIBS gives one the opportunity to intermingle with these perfect creations of God. It is certainly a joy to be with them.
You are welcome to share your time and be a volunteer at CRIBS. Here’s how: Becoming a Volunteer in the Receiving Home. Call CRIBS at 681-5921 and 681-8078 for a schedule or if you have questions. All CRIBS needs is advanced notice. One can be a volunteer, a sponsor or a donor.
CRIBS has a wish list for its Receiving Home Program (for abandoned babies) and New Beginnings Program (for female victims of abuse, aged 7-17).

A program that is as rewarding to the volunteers as to the little ones at CRIBS. I can think of no more enjoyable way to spend two hours.

Hello,
I was given your name and blog website in reference to CRIBS. I see here that you are a volunteer there. I wanted to speak to you about CRIBS and what it was like to volunteer there. I was adopted from CRIBS 24 years ago and was doing some research about my adoption. If you can email me at jesglienna@gmail.com I would like to further talk with you. Thank you! Have a great New Years!
