As we experience the continuing dip in temperature in our country, which to most of us is the best time of the year, when we get to wear our fancy jackets, bring out the warm bedding, and enjoy a jog, a stroll in the park, or simply delight sipping a cup of hot coffee, chocolate or tea, let us not forget our brothers and sisters who have less in life.
Let us not at this time dream big—of our leaders changing their hearts overnight taking the task of serving the country as they should instead of stashing away the country’s wealth, or politicos changing color not anymore for their political aspirations but for the good of their consituencies, of winning the lotto, and so forth and so on.
We can just, for a start, in our own small way, pay forward, give back to others what we have received in terms of material blessings and comfort, in terms of happy relationships, families, friendships and successes and share a part of ourselves even in our small way.
And finally, thank God. Yes, I thank Thee Lord, I am alive, itself a blessing. I thank Thee for everything.
Here’s sharing with you a simple poem that I wrote, simply titled, COLD.
as the temperature falls
and dips even further
It’s time to huddle
cuddle and snuggle
curl up
nestle and nuzzle
snooze
catnap
and doze further
to literary slumber
but while i smile
pleased with myself
i am jolted to reality
can’t help but think
of those with less in life
orphaned babies
homeless families
children in the streets
soldiers in the hills
mendicants, old folks
chilling in the open
curled up in a ball
shivering
teeth grinding
no blankets
to keep them warm
against the cold winds
they just grimace
some in raw pain
others dead beat
this is the truth
in a society
where survival is left
to each his own
unmindful of the other
leaders equally nefarious
while some empathic hearts
prevail to give comfort
i am left with a question
will they ever rise
from this bottomless pit?

I love the poem. It echoes the truth me thinks.

Dear Dine,
You are truly a talented and sensitive lady. Writing poetry is an artistic expression that takes time to cultivate. That was real lovely. Cheers…Cora

This is beautiful, very apropos for the Christmas season where we usually think of giving to the needy ones. I know that we have the heart to share our blessings with the unfortunate.
Have a blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

Very beautiful, Dine. Merry Christmas too to you, Allan and the whole brood. I am the host for our traditional Christmas family get-together this year, after so many years of absence. It’s a nice feeling.
