40 Heavenly Days

40 Heavenly Days

Last Sunday, 11 November 2007 was our Joseph Michael’s 40th day in heaven. God took him away from us on 3 October and where else would he have gone, if not in heaven, among the multitudes of angels and saints? Michael was such a sweet and innocent little infant turned angel. My kids even believed that Michael joined heaven’s “angel academy” for his training—to become a full-fledged angel, basking in the glory of God, His Creator. Before his physical body was laid to rest, Noemi whispered to him to send her love to Louijoe. My kid and their cousins also sent their love to Kristabelle, my husband’s niece who died when she was barely 4 years old.

Thinking of Michael this way gives us comfort. Angelo and Caren are indeed blessed to have an angel for a son. Our family is indeed blessed to have Michael watching over us through our daily struggles, through our daily toils, through our daily joys, through our daily chores.

But humans as we are, we continue to feel the loss. It’s like a gaping hole, a pain piercing through our hearts, especially of Angelo’s and Caren’s. In times like this, we can only comfort each other. I am glad that Angelo and Caren go through this together, they are so supportive of each other, turning to God, clinging to Him, holding on to His promises—that all that happen are “His will”. Let His will be done.

The Dream

Let me share with you the dream that Caren had a few hours before Michael was taken away. She was able to immediately tell Angelo of this dream whe shen woke up—when Michael cried his last. Apparently, “the dream” was a premonition of things to come.

Caren dreamt that she and Angelo were carrying a white box toward a plane, which was surrounded with a lot of good people. Somebody suggested that the box be turned over to him “para hindi na mahirapan” (so that it won’t be difficult), “because if you bring it yourselves, baka hindi makarating” (it might not reach its destination). They handed over the box which was immediately brought up the plane, without question, without doubts. Immediately, the man who took it stamped a number “7” on the box. After that, when they climbed the plane, they were in the middle of nowhere—a vast place, with no other people, just the two of them.

A few hours after, Michael was taken away, when both parents were made to sleep, heads seemingly frozen. Fast forward the events, when Michael was dressed up in the mortuary, we were there, when a white coffin greeted us. Caren said, “Daddy, it must be the white box in my dream”. Angelo was inspecting it for scratches or whatever, and guess what he saw—the coffin had the number “70” labelled in one corner. It was the confirmation of the dream.

It was only after 3 days that I was able to interpret the dream. Plane means flight—flight upward to heaven. The good people surrounding Caren and Angelo were angels. One of them asked that the white box—Michael be handed over to them so that he won’t be having difficulty anymore in going to heaven. He was handed wholeheartedly, no doubts, no questions.

The number 7 has biblical meaning—it is the perfect number, the number of spiritual perfection: Seven days in a week. Seven colors in the spectrum. Seven of the 10 commandments begin with the word “not.” There are 7 seals, 7 trumpets, 7 parables in Matthew, 7 promises to the churches, Seven Last Words, etc. Seven is heaven’s number. Michael was brought to heaven by the angels of God.

For if it were the parents who would have raised Michael, it could have been a difficult path to heaven. For like us, humans that we are, we lose our innocence, we stumble and we fall in this world.

The last scene, the middle of nowhere, a vast place, is the world where we are in today. We were with Fr. Larry Faraon a few days ago, who had more or less the same interpretation as I had—the flight upwards, the angels, giving Michael without doubts and hesitation, the heavenly number, the vast expansion of which is the earth where we live. He said that the dream was a premonition of things to come. He advised us to take comfort in the dream, which was indeed a confirmation that Michael is in heaven.

Thank you, Michael

And yes, I have sought Michael’s intercession to many things, most often—granted. Michael has become the family’s reason to be more closer to each other, and to God. Thank you dear Michael for the 6-weeks of blessed memories while you were on earth, and thank you for watching over us, from heaven up high!

As we move on…

Condolences to your family. I, too, lost my baby this year. The pain was, and still is, unbearable. But I find comfort in the fact that my baby is now an angel and enjoying himself in heaven. And now your family has an angel watching over all of you. One step at a time…
