@21 a male is already considered a man, @21 a man must have already been independent from his parents. But with BA, I don’t really mind–I would even like him to be with me forever. Yes, for as long as I live, I would like my BA (even my other children for that matter) to be with me forever. This is a mother being in a state called selfishness, perhaps?
But I would let go when he is ready in the same way that I did with his elder brother, J Angelo. In the same way that I let go each time BA has someone new, each time BA has someone special (whether he admits it or not).

BA and I have stuck with each other through thick and thin, through good times and bad–he has been my protector. Oh! how he would defend me with fury if needed. I have seen this from BA time and again. Dare not make me cry, as BA would be your foe. Of all of them my 4 sons and 3 daughters, BA and I have spent the most time together, especially every evening, when we would side by side, or face to face, back to back work together quietly (or boisterously) with our Macs till the wee hours of the morning, him studying and I working (este plurking, multiplying, facebooking…).

Not enough of this, it is BA more than I who makes it a point to be on time Sunday mornings to go to CRIBS and take care of the babies there. You will see a more relaxed BA Sunday mornings, taking care of the toddlers, dancing with them, singing with them (at times with the crawlers and the infants). No matter how these kids pull his hair, or run after him, or fill him with wet kisses, or harass him, BA keeps his cool. He is well-loved by his wards at CRIBS.

And BA has empathy. He does not allow me to haggle with the corn peddlers along Katipunan, saying that they deserve to earn a decent living without me depriving them of the “tawad” (discount) that I would ask. But he hates dishonest taxi drivers, and hates it if he goes hungry. The best way, I found out to BA’s heart, is through his stomach (there I have given him away). He enjoys food, even the street food along UP–fish balls, squid balls, chicken balls, etc., and all the restaurants along Katipunan, to fine dining.
I can talk and write and talk and write about BA and I will not run out of words. But I know that BA is one son I can be very proud of–a good son, student, sibling, mentor, and man of others. BA is taking up BS Applied Physics in UP.
HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY Bernard Alan (also known as BABoy, BaBaBa, BA and many more). May the good Lord continue to shower you with immense blessings (and grant you with your heart’s desire). We LOVE YOU, and will always will.

When I was 21, I was selling balut down the corner to help with the family expenses. And I had to finish my Economics degree in 3.5 years so I could start working at the factory tearing up tattered clothes for retaso and sewing them back up to sell as rags.
Life is unfair.

i’m 23…i’m still a BA…i got my first job at the age of 20…i graduated at the age of 19…i remember how my mom became so emotional when i told her i wanna be independent and build my own life, my own identity and my own future…i don’t want people to think that i got this and that because i belong to the family of this and that…now, i have my own house in one of the subdivisions in leyte…during weekend, my mom stays at home…leaving their home unattended…she wakes me up in the morning and cooks the food for me…when she’s not with me on weekdays, she calls me on phone and reminds me to take my vitamins….dont skip meals…dont go to work w/o taking breakfast…hahha…i admit i used to be a mamas boy…
