Tips from Top Bloggers @ DigitalFilipino.com Club and Bloggers Manila Networking Event

“There’s really no secret”–this was what most bloggers who were present in the event (DigitalFilipino.com Club and Bloggers Manila Networking Event) said, when asked to share how they climbed in the Philippine Top 100 Blogs for 2008 by Ratified.org.

Some did not even know that they were in the list. Jehzlau said he didn’t even know that he was #1 in the list. When his mother, who joined Jehz for her first ever blogger event saw the list, I saw how surprised and proud she was of Jehz. For Jehz, it was more of pakikipag-kapwa tao–as he called it, sharing whatever he knows with others, even if he does not know them personally, that made him climb to the top. I can personally attest to that–after I met him in person in a Baguio event, he has always been there for me to answer my questions, to give me advice, or just to say hello.

It was good to listen to the sharing of all the others–content being common to all. As for me, I, too, do not have any secret. It’s more of capturing the reader’s attention with varied subjects of interests, using searchable keywords, and sharing a part of myself. It is also writing about subjects that are really close to my heart, like the UAAP games, where I get a lot of hits each season, and the UPCAT and ACET which are very informative.

Reyna Elena was there for his first blog event in the country, shared that he seriously looked into the profiles of his readers, found out that more than 80% were from the country, making him shift his medium to English/Filipino, sometimes Visayan, and content geared toward the subjects that interests his readers, social climbing being one of them (in simple terms–networking).

For AJ Matela, it’s all about the interesting subjects of his blogs–about his being gay, his blind items and his other blogs. He is launching a beauty blog, btw. Fritz talked about his quest for financial freedom.

For others, they shared about earning money through blogs, beauty tips, music, and many more. The Filipina Images also made it to the top.

Here are some observations of Janette and Andrew when they were putting the list together: (i) location does not really matter–bloggers in the Top 50 (out of 100) live in many parts of the Philippines, and not concentrated only in Metro Manila. There was also a sprinkling of OFW blogs; (ii) age and gender orientation, too, do not matter. Age varies from the teens to the __ties, while gender included males, females and those in the middle; (iii) entrepreneurial–most blogs have adsense, ads, and paid posts, though there are few that are ads-free; and (iv) all blogs are content-drive. This seems to be the most important aspect in blogging, the reason why readers subscribe to them.

Congratulations Janette, and yes, thanks to PAGCOR, who hosted the event–finally they realized that online presence is important. Annalyn is now working with Gary Viray and PAGCOR’s web group. Maricel Cruz was a good singer, everyone enjoyed her 4 songs, the last one a dance with AJ Matela (nice one AJ–you’re a good sport!). To the bloggers from whom I snatched some pictures, thanks!

Here are some write-ups, gathered by Janette.
