UAAP Season 70: Ateneo BEATS UST!

Until now, I am speechless—I am happy. I don’t know what to say. Prior to leaving the house at 2 pm for the Araneta, we had an advanced celebration, called WIN or LOSE. We even had a cake to cap the occassion.

Araneta was tense, it was not packed to its seams though, as in a typical ADMU-DLSU game. Nothing can beat an ADMU-DLSU game. Nothing, indeed.

But ADMU has to come in full force—for its sweet REVENGE. Remember the championship game last year, when UST won? For one whole year after that the UST cheer, “Go USTE, Go USTE, Go Go Go Go USTE” has haunted me. In my sleep, in my waking hours, in my silent hours, I would hear the cheer at the back of my mind. I would even say the cheer myself. Their cheer has the effect of the jingle “Sinabawang Gulay”. Oh, how I hated the feeling.

I had to go to the games to come to terms with my fear and my trauma—to again see for myself the stream of yellow, and listen to the disturbing cheer “Go USTE, Go USTE, Go Go Go Go USTE”.

And all through the first quarter of the game to the middle part of the second quarter, UST was leading, up to a big 9 points. But I never gave up, I never lost spirit, never lost my Atenean spirit, like everyone else. By sheer magic, or was it a miracle, or was it really the zest and hard work of the ADMU team, ADMU was leading by 2 points at the second quarter. Oh, it was a riot, we were all cheering with all our might, at the top of our voices, “One BIG fight!” “Get that ball!”. UST never led after that, with ADMU’s biggest lead of 11 points and lowest lead of 1 point, when UST would again shout their cheeer, “Go USTE, Go USTE, Go Go Go Go USTE”.

The referees never failed to amaze me—they would not call fouls when the UST fouls were obvious, or when they would call a foul on ADMU when it was only clearly a block, and not a foul. Of course, I am not an expert, I am only a fan.

All through the third to fourth quarter, their cheer, “Go USTE, Go USTE, Go Go Go Go USTE” wove its magic to my ears, I suddenly found their yellow sunshiny disposition a sight to behold. Their cheer has become music to my ears, maybe not only to me, but to the many ADMU spectators as well.

Within an hour, I have conquered my trauma, the UST cheer is behind me now. It no longer has any other meaning, but a sweet revenge, nay, a SWEET VICTORY!

The ATENEO BLUE EAGLES made it at 69 for ADMU and 64 for UST.

ANIMO Ateneo

One big FIGHT

Ang sarap maging Atenista.

Tita Dine, Med tech ka pala? Wala lang..

Mabuti naman at nanalo ang Ateneo. Actually, I am not an avid follower of UAAP Basketball. Pero between Ateneo and UST, syempre, Ateneo na ako, haha! Why? Ewan. I did apply for Ateneo and passed the ACET. And that’s it. Haha! Siguro dahil kapitbahay ng UP? Hehe!

Between DLSU and Ateneo, syempre Ateneo pa rin. Ayoko sa DLSU. For some reason, I feel a certain level of animosity to them.

Between UE and Ateneo.. Hmm.. Ewan, haha! UE might seem to be the ‘underdog’ since it’s the less prestigious school. Pero naman, 14-0? That says something about UE’s basketball team, right? Hehe!

I graduated from DLSU but took up law at the Ateneo. Although I support DLSU, I do not have any animosity towards the ADMU team. :-) Great game last Saturday as the Eagles beat UST.

Whatever anyone says or whatever side you’re on, an ADMU - DLSU game is as exciting as could be. Can’t wait for Thursday!
