It is not just a Batman movie, not just an action movie or a thriller–there are many truths in life that could be found in this movie.
Knights in shining armour, give hope to the majority, though sometimes these knights are far from perfect (in the case of Harvey Dent the District Attorney, even if he became a villain in the end).
On the other hand there are unsung heroes that remain in the dark because they do not befit the image of what a hero should be (in the case of Batman).
.
Spoiler Alert: Contrary to what The Joker believed, there is still a lot of goodness in this world. The Joker planted explosives in two ferries, which contained evacuees in one ferry and prisoner convicts in another. The Joker gave each group the chance to save their own lives by destroying the other, by activating the switch to the explosives. Not making a choice would trigger an explosion of both ferries by 12 o’clock. THEY MADE A CHOICE, a choice The Joker did not expect–both sides chose not to place the lives of the others in their hands. They did not sacrifice each other’s lives so they might live.
.
Sometimes, there is no need to present the truth about love, especially if the object of one’s affection is already dead. Batman’s butler and father figure chose not to give him the letter of the woman he loved. It mentioned there that she loved Batman as a friend, and would marry the other. Not knowing the truth will keep the love and hope in his heart.
The Joker. For me, the movie is not all about Batman, it is all about The Joker, who is the greatest villain of all times–a “psychopathic, mass murderer, and schizophrenic with zero empathy”. He delights in all that is bad, laughs even if in pain, and kills mercilessly. Life is not all about money for him even if it is for the many seemingly true to life characters in the movie.
Heath Ledger gave justice to his role in the movie. It must have been his best performance. He prepared for his role, he had to internalize and be The Joker that he brought to the next level, not as a comic character, but as an embodiment of all that is evil–it showed in his eyes.
And yes, the movie is all about choices (though sometimes people thought they were trapped-leaving them no choice). In The Dark Knght, the good prevails.
Oh, by the way, for me, The Dark Knight is the best Batman movie ever, though I also enjoyed Transformers, another thriller.
Highly recommended, I give The Dark Knight 5 stars, with 5 being the highest.
If you watch The Dark Knight, keep these in mind:
- Be sure to come on time, make an allowance for falling in line for the tickets. If you come early or buy your tickets ahead of time, you will have your choice seats, and seated with your companions. Me, I watched the movie in the morning–first screening, with Vince and Chato.
- The first part of The Dark Knight is very crucial for one to understand the movie (that is, if you have not read anything about the movie at all).
- Pee before the screening starts, as you will not want to miss any of the segments, action is so fast, you would want to hold that pee to the very last.
- This time, don’t care about food, the movie itself will keep you occupied
- Not being a spoiler, it’s good to have a background of the movie, but if you plan to watch it the second time, there’s no need.
- Watch the movie the second time, if you have the resources (lol). I will watch it again with the excuse to accompany Alan Jr and Pau who have not watched it yet.

I love TDK. The Batman fan in me was satisfied. The Joker’s portrayal of someone made out of pure evil and whose only motivation was to wreak havoc was straight out of the comics. I totally loved it.

As described by you “The Joker, who is the greatest villain of all times—a “psychopathic, mass murderer, and schizophrenic with zero empathy”. He delights in all that is bad, laughs even if in pain, and kills mercilessly.”
If given the chance, I would like to be The Joker and I will go even further.
My target, those crazy government officials and politicians. LOL

For me, it wasn’t about Joke. Or Batman. It was about Gotham. I really loved how they created another character out of the city.
But the Joker character is undoubtedly what made TDK so special.

I’m smitten by Heath Ledger’s acting. He rocked! But Christian Bale was a tad too boring … But anyway, it was a good movie. Definitely worth watching, di ba?
