Pinoy Big Brother, Season 2

I told myself that now that I have retired, I will have the chance to watch PBB, also known as the “teleserye ng tunay na buhay”. Let me see if I could withstand peeking into the lives of 14 people entirely unknown to me and relate with how people talked about the anecdotes and scandals in the past seasons. Having 4 teenagers myself, I watched most of the segments of the Teen Edition, hoping that I could take a glimpse of the behaviour of teenagers, what makes them happy and what bothers them. There were a lot of lessons learned in these segments. Could I relate with Season 2? Will Season 2 represent the young Filipino? I am not a psychologist, but somehow I am interested—what gives? Will Pinoy Big Brother be just rubbish? or will it be a study of human behaviour? This I will find out in the coming days.

Opening
Big Brother and hosts Toni Gonzaga, “Kapitbahay ni Kuya” Mariel Rodriguez, “Ang dating boarder ni Kuya” Bianca Gonzales, PBB Season 1 First Placer, and Jayson Gainza welcomed 6 Housemates (out of the 14) in the PBB House Sunday evening, with a bang—complete with fireworks, and with a military theme. They will stay there for 126 days.

Rumor has it that Big Brother will be more strict this time. Tasks will be more challenging, house rules will be stricter and secret missions will be more difficult. But it seems that living in the renovated PBB House which is much bigger and much luxurious than the PBB House of Season 1, Celebrity Edition and Teen Edition will prove to bring excitement and fun this season. It retained its bright color scheme courtesy of students of the Philippine School of Interior Design.

Meet the First Batch 6 Housemates

EZIKEL, Australian Hottie, 21 yr old from Australia. He used to play 15 hours a day online game, Warcraft, now down to 6 hours. I wonder, will he go crazy, now that he is literally offline, and cut from the outside world, sans Big Brother and the other Housemates.

WENDY, Hot Commercial Babe, 24 yo Masscom student from FEU. She lives in a squatters’ area in Navotas. She is a commercial model, Binibining Pilipinas, Ms Tourism in 2005. She is the breadwinner, their father having left them for another family 9 years ago. She feels that this is her chance to give her family a break from a poor life.

SAICY, Samba Dancing Diva, 23 yo of Bacolod City, a dance instructor. Her father is a pedicab driver, her mother a housewife. She is a Bachelor in Education graduate, major in PE. She has earned a living for herself and her family as a DI and joining dance competitions. She dreams to compete in national and international dance sport.

GEE-ANN, Cheering Chick, 21 yo from Quezon City comes from an excusive school. She seems to live a comfortable lifestyle, and claims to have best of both worlds. She lievs with her mother and sister, their father having left them when she was 3 years old. For a while audience was intrigued, when she was introduced as having been a mother of 8 for 15 years now (and she’s only 21). It was found out later that the 8 kids that she treats as her children are dolls and stuffed toys (oh, gosh!). Big Brother gave her the opportunity to take with her one of her 8 “children” to the PBB House. She chose her doll, Pamela.

MICKEY, Hip Hop Dancing King, 22 yo from Switzerland. He is half Austrian half Filipino. He calls himself a hip hop dancing king, having won the award in Europe. Dancing is his passion. He has won the title Hip Hop King in a dance contest in Europe. He has no expectations in PBB House, but would like to enjoy his stay there. He speaks German and an interpreter came in handy. He claims not to speak nor understand English, not even little English. This I doubt very much. When he was asked by one Housemate if he understood English, he immediately said, “nicht”. I don’t know up to when people can be fooled that he indeed does not understand ANY English.

NEL, Mr. Perfect, 25 yo from Iloilo City. He prides himself for his “exotic beauty” (boy, is he serious?). He looks more of a comedian to me. Both his parents come from the military. His mom confirmed he is a joker, a comedian.

I find the 3 girls, Wendy, Saicy and gee-Ann, attractive, and it looks like Big Brother will bring out the fun, excitement and controversy in them. Mickey is dull, Ezikel is so-so, and Nel, I don’t know what antics he will be up to.

First Task
The Housemates were handcuffed, not the normal way, but in a complicated manner, like hands at the back, in the neck, leg/hand combination, etc.) before they entered the PBB House. Weird,I thought. But then, most of everything is expected to be weird. This is a reality show. Even doll Pamela was handcuffed, a tiny handcuff came in ready. The 6 Housemates were asked to get on the large waterbed in the garden, and try to unlock the handcuffs. Those whose handcuffs remained unlocked after 5 minutes would be unlocked only the following day. Except for Mickey, who was expressionless, the 5 Housemates had fun unlocking each other’s handcuffs.

The Remaining 8 Housemates
Big Brother will let the 8 remaining Housemates in the PBB House at the time he feels best, maybe next Sunday: a former basketball hunk who was left out by his team and was unable to play again since them; a diskarte queen, ready to put everything at stake for the sake of her siblings and mother; a lovable sweetheart, who feels left out in the family, as she has a different father from her 3 other siblings; a prodigal son, half Pinoy, half Persian, who was into vices; a good son, who left for 3 yrs to take care of his sick father in England; a sassy girl, who does not have a permanent address. Now Big Brother will take her in, she would have a permanent address at least for the next 4 months. Her family was never complete, and she dreams to rebuild it one day

Studio 23
Studio 23 will cover PBB Mondays to Thursdays and Saturdays. Hosts Asia Agcaoili and Bossa Nova Queen Sitti will bring the latest dish on the 14 new Housemates. On Monday and Tuesday nights, it will be Asia with her juicy gossip. Former Pinoy Dream Academy host and Bossa queen Sitti will bring a sneak peek at the Housemates with an interactive experience every Wednesdays and Thursdays.

when pinoy big brother first came out last year, I wanted to follow it too . But it bored me to tears. I can’t connect talaga. Good luck though.

Wow, I would love to hear what a mom’s perspective would be on what goes on in PBB..personally, I can’t see myself in any of the housemates’ shoes (or PJ’s!).

oh yeah, i chanced upon the opening last night, while i was browsing the tv channels. nanuod ako sandali after i heard mickey speak, feeling konek ako sa austria hehe!

anyway, good luck sa self-challenge na to, sana ma-withstand mo! it’d be a great bonding time with the kids.

thanks, Noemi, let’s see if it has exciting things to offer this time. at least for the teen edition, i was somehow able to connect (we were rooting for Mikee Lee, one of my son’s best friends in grade school). i feel that up to now, he is one teens should emulate.

I wonder how Mickey will survive in that house. In a sense he is like a ‘caveman’ inside the house. The only english word I heard from him was ‘hello’. We had 24/7 subscription on season1 and my mom is still deciding on subscribing to this season.

I am not a fan of Big Brother! Saw it years ago in Belgium. It was really rubbish. Hope the Pinoy version is better.

Hallo! I dont know I really dont like watching Big Brother coz I find it boring watching talentless people going on their daily lives. Here it is even worst since you get to see them having sex and all. I always prefer watching reality tvs that promotes talent as well as entertainment like So You Think You Can Dance or Prject RUnway

Dine, no idea what PBB is and I don’t have Filipino channel to watch it here. Am i missing a lot? Though I am enjoying the American idol show three times a week (one of the contestants has nude photos online…ngeeek…this is American television, you know.)

I think the show is very pretentious. ABS-CBN totally destroyed the Big Brother concept. They don’t even have an overbearing “Big Brother” figure in most editions of the game.

It’s supposed to be about the relationships and interactions – not who can dress up the funniest or who packs relief goods the quickest. It just capitalizes on the judgmental quality of people wherein individuals are damned to hell because of one honest mistakes.

I don’t think the show was meant to be a “Who is the model Filipino game”. The packaging of ABS is really pretentious, as it tries to create a semblance of morality given the voyeurism that serves as the main component of the show.

You should see the other message boards. Most fans of this show are rabid. They will insult, wish ill etc. among other contestants and their supporters.

You know what???? PBB inspires me a lot. It makes me stronger than ever. It seems that no other network can do this very good masterpiece. ABS-CBN is very good network wherein most of the viewer relates on the character they put in their program.

Zeke and Mickey keep up the good work. Jasmin dont give up. Dione how nice you are. Beatriz I ove the attitude you have. Nel soon to be perfect Kian you dont deserve to nominate, Gee-an I understand you, and other housemate I will pray for you all. Love you!!

I am an avid televiewer of PBB but then since I saw Dionne w/ her malalaswang kilos, I feel like seeing other program. Kahit taga Cebu ako, hindi ako favor sa mga ikinikilos ni Dionne. Masyadong OA Parang ginagamit niya ang kanyang pagkaartista dito sa Cebu.
Kudos also to Big Brother dahil hindi niya pinalampas ang mga ginagawang kalaswaan ni Dionne. Sana naman ay sa susunod na PBB Season 3 ay huwag na siyang kumuha ng housemate na galing sa pag-aartista kagaya ni Dionne. Masyadong maarte !
