John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo in You Changed My Life (a movie review)

February 27th, 2009 by Sexy Mom · Viewed 4888 times · 10 Comments

I didn’t realize that the movie was a sequel to A Very Special Love, the blockbuster movie that was shown in August last year. You Changed My Life is actually A Very Special Love, Part 2. The two movie houses were full for the 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm screening in Trinoma last Wednesday, and I had to buy advanced tickets for the 8 pm screening, my mom, 2 daughters and 2 sons in tow.

Nothing fancy, nothing spectacular, but what make the movie endearing to the viewing public were the kilig moments, the punchlines at the perfect moment, and the emo moments to which the viewers could relate one time or another. And the John Lloyd Cruz-Sarah Geronimo chemistry is simply amazing.

The movie made me cry, laugh, cry and laugh at the same time, as I closely huddled with Chato who was equally mesmerized with John Lloyd. The audience cheered and clapped, too. Sarah did well as Laida, the ever loving and completely head over heels in love with her Bebe. She would do anything because of her love for him, in fact, put her career behind, patiently wait for him, even try to stay away from her high school boyfriend, played by the young, vibrant and good looking Rayver. Would you give up your greatest ambition because of love? Would you want your loved one to give up something to prove his or her love?  Would you decide for your loved one? Can their love survive the change? These are just some of the questions the movie will try to answer.

Whenever John Lloyd told her that he loved her, Sara would say “mas pa”, meaning her love for him surpasses his. But as all relationships are affected because life is not always a bed of roses, and there are realities that have to be faced, the relationship suddenly … I do not want to be a spoiler here.

The supporting cast did their roles well, especially Rayver Cruz who was Sarah’s high school best friend. He acts so naturally, it’s not a surprise if in the next few years, he will be another heart throb.

A romantic drama-comedy, megged by Director Cathy Garcia-Molina, Star Cinema’s “You Changed My Life” is a must see for those who are in for light diversion, a relaxed time, feel good, laughter, tears, and for some emo moments. I enjoyed watching it the same way that I enjyed watching the first movie, A Very Special Love. I am giving it a rating of 4 stars (out of 5).

Watch You Changed My Life—a feel good movie, which I rate as 4 (with 5 being the highest).

Hi, Ms. D.! I watched A Very Special Love, too, last year, and I really enjoyed it. I was still smiling when I left the cinema. I must watch this sequel, too, with hubby tomorrow. Thanks for this review.

I have watched A very special love in Philippines. The movie was amazing, and still is coz I watched it several times on dvd. My folks in Australia wanted to watch a Pinoy movie so I advised them to rent a copy. They rented both the movie and KC’s (what was that movie again?). They said they superenjoyed A Very special love. I know they enjoyed it… because I was there with them. haha I watched it for the nth time. Just wish there’s a screening for the movie “You changed my Life” in Sydney, too. Oh, well. I’ll be back in the Philippines soon I WILL watch You changed my life.
