On July 21, 2007, during my first day at WordCamp for WordPress users, I spoke up and told my fellow conference attendees about the google bombing campaign my sister, Noemi Dado, and her friends were undertaking to take back the word Filipina online from its massive “dating and penpal websites” and put this word in a more balanced context. The loud applause caught me off-guard. The bloggers liked what they heard! A couple of bloggers came forward and chatted with me about taking back the word “Jew” online. A few other bloggers networked with me because they wanted to meet more Filipino bloggers.
This talk about “google bombing” the word “Filipina” started with a yahoo messenger chat I had with Noemi last June 26, 2007. She was asking my opinion about her blogger-friend, Dine Racoma, who described herself as “Sexy Mom, a Filipina freelance writer, researcher, problogger, and new media adviser.” Dine had posted “Whaaaat? Sexy Mom a Disgrace to Filipino Women? Seems Like an Attack to Bloggers per se.”

Read Lorna’s post in full, and be inspired to continue with our campaign to Shape the Filipina Woman’s Image. Come to think of it, since after that initial show of support in June, google search for the keywords Filipina Sexy Mom has invaded pages 1 and 2–in all its clean image, dislodging the dating and pornograhic sites that once made it to the first pages. How sweet! Majority of the sites in pages 3-6 are still the clean ones, with a sprinkling of the sites that we want to dislodge.
The D Spot still takes the no. 1 position in google search for Sexy Mom, with one or two of our clean sites in pages 1 and 2. Some more work is needed on this.
For the key words, Sexy Filipina, at least Noemi’s post and that of Global Voices Online are in page 1, and we hope to have man more of our clean sites here.
Google search for the keyword Filipina is still a disappointment. This is where our campaigners and SEO experts can come to our rescue. A LOT OF WORK has to be made on this aspect, if we want to truly Shape the Filipina Image. If our experts can come up again with clear instructions or promotions on how our bloggers could do it, it would be most helpful. There are a lot of bloggers who have all the intentions to participate in this campaign, but do not know how. I am one of them, techie challenged that I am. We may type the Filipina keywords in all places in our posts, but sometimes these are not effective enough, especially if the keywords are not appropriately linked.
“Decent Mom” triggered it, BA and Sexy Mom exposed it, Noemi started the campaign, and all the rest have said their piece. But all this is not yet enough.

FILIPINOS–regardless of sex, creed and location, BLOGGERS–regardless of niche, C’MON, LET US UNITE in RECLAIMING THE DIGNITY OF THE FILIPINA WOMAN AND RESHAPING THE CLEAN IMAGE OF THE SEXY FILIPINA, not only ONLINE, but also in the traditional forms of media as well. WE CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Anyway, I didn’t know how to use the instructions suggested in taking back the word, “Filipina,” until Noemi coached me online (yahoo chat) while I made mistake after mistake — and Eureka, I got it.
Here’s what I came out with. I used Filipina Women’s Network to reflect the keyword, “Filipina.”
INSTRUCTIONS:
Let’s say you want to use the keyword, “Filipina.”
In my blog, http://www.RadiantView.com, I introduce myself as “Hi, I’m Lorna Dietz, a Filipina American.”
When you click on the keyword, Filipina, it will go directly to http://ffwn.org/.
a. This is not the same as putting a link that goes directly to http://ffwn.org/.
b. What you do is put the keyword, “Filipina,” in a code.
Instead of writing the word, “Filipina,” you will write the following code instead when you are writing your entry in your blog or website. Repeat, you will not write the word “Filipina.” You will use the code below when you are composing your post (entry).
Filipina
The final result is you will see the highlighted, underlined word “Filipina” once it is published.
So, from Noemi’s instructions, it means then that
Filipina

Hi Miss Dine, I’d love to help out. True, there are more to ranking websites than just stuffing keywords to the website’s content. I emailed Miss Noemi about some suggestions, it’s just a bit tricky to explain the whole SEO aspect of this in a comment or in an email.
