Love Poems of My Youth

Taking queue from Annamanila’s My So Called Poems (Inanities that Rhyme) I am posting here some of the love poems of my youth. Unlike Annamanila’s poems which were published in her school paper, mine, written in high school, never saw print. Even if I were a member of the school paper’s editorial team at that time, and even if the poems were only figments of my imagination—my father was very very strict, I could not even talk with boys—they were not approved for publication by the discerning nuns. Find out why.

By the way, I am dedicating these poems to my parents, who would have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary today, had my father been alive. He passed away in 2000, during my 6-month posting in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.

AS I PASS AWAY THESE LONELY HOURS

shall i let these lonely hours pass away
thinking of you and all the things we shared?
i wish i were with you in moments like this
such precious moments we can spend together
but all i can do is think of you
smile at the moments we both cherish
i want to feel your very presence
to listen to the endearments you call me
love, i want you now, i want you by my side
i want to think of you and tell you of my love
as i pass away these lonely hours.

TONIGHT I SHALL BE WITH YOU

tonight i shall be with you
in a world of dreams and magic
oh, wait for me my darling
let’s share the wonders of the night
and forget the world we’ve left

we’ll walk our way to wonderland
full of awe and excitement
the place is ours alone
where pleasure is at its best
nowhere a trace of loneliness

you shall hold my hands, my dear
when we’ve had all the love
this kind of world has to offer
as we wake up to reality.

NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE

you’re a dream no more
for i feel your very presence
i know it’s real—i have you
you make me feel important, loved
well, i’m here to give in return
i’m sincerely interested in your happiness
i’m here to fulfill your needs
to cheer you up when you’re lonely
to strengthen you with my touch
to talk when you need to listen
to listen when you need to talk
i’m a woman, if you need fulfillment
that, i can also give
but only through my love
the very thought of you tells me
that i’m not alone, i have someone
i feel your love in my whole being
i’m secure by your side
what more can i ask for
now that i have you.

NO TITLE

how i wish to keep all the memories
when you and i were together
but all i can do is to keep these memories
and make the best of today
when you and i are together

love, hold me tight, hold me close to you
let me cling to your warm embrace
and whisper my love for you
let me hear all the tenderness
the love only you can give

how i wish this will never end
that i can always hope that soon
there’ll be you and me
when together we will turn sadness to glee
together we’ll watch the breaking of dawn
and face the new ‘morrow
when you and i are together.

I’m printing out your poems for my Mom :)

They’re beautiful and heart-wrenching, to say the least. Wish I could write as beautifully as you.

Also, is it ok if I tag you :)

SexyMom: thanks, Cookie, you’re already in my blogroll.

    Very nice.

The one with No Title, sya ba yong HS crush, BF mo? Should be titled as Now that you are gone. LOL

    Have great weekend.

SexyMom: di ba i said they were figments of my imagination? promise—i had no bf in hs (this might stir my father, bless his soul, from his grave—he was so strict, i was not allowed even to talk to boys).

Wow, very romantic…imagination is really powerful :)

I lost my notebook of poems I made when I was 16 (well, it was the time I wrote a lot then)...eh malilimutin ako, so hindi ko kabisado…I never memorize my compositions. :(

Kaya, heto ako uli, trying to write again…at wag sana mawala yung copy ko sa internet…at yun lang ang kopya ko…

SexyMom: i was lucky i found my notebooks, who knows, you might unearth yours, too.

Obviously, you were sooo in love when you wrote those poems, ano?
I’ve made some attempts at poetry writing when I was once heartbroken :-( , I let out all angst. When I
‘recovered’, I got rid of all of them kaya ngayon ,wala man lang ako kahit isang written poem.

SexyMom: you know high school life…oh to be young and in love.

  12. Rach on June 10th, 2007 1:38 am

Thanks for sharing these beautiful lines.

    SexyMom: my pleasure, Rach.

I was never a poem-person, but I enjoyed your poems, Tita. Hindi masyado cryptic ang meaning, unlike other poems. Madaling intindihin (Haha!, mahina kasi ako sa pag-read between the lines sa mga poems) and I can really imagine (or even feel) the emotions.

Kung magiging kanta ang NO TITLE, astig! Rakenrol, haha!

SexyMom: mababaw lang naman si Tita Dine.

  14. Belle on June 10th, 2007 11:52 am

Dine, beautiful poems! my favorite is “Tonight I shall Be With You.” It reminds me of yesteryears.

SexyMom: it’s mushy, Belle, isn’t it?

  15. Chateau on June 10th, 2007 11:14 pm

Oh, mmmoooshy mushy poems, Dine! Parang may twinkling hearts pa siguro ang eyes mo while writing them LOL
They’re beautiful, and so in love :D

    SexyMom: twinkling mascara-ed eyes!

I will try again to submit my comment…everytime i clicked “submit comment” – wordpress error….

i tried to share comment on your “mission statement” but encountered the same error….

    will try again…..

SexyMom: that’s too bad, but thanks anyway. i find this wordpress error in many other blogsites, too.

  17. Ann on June 11th, 2007 12:49 am

Nice. I like the first one :)

Sana someday, I’ll have the guts to post my (notebooks upon notebooks) of inanities.

SexyMom: it would be nice to share them, Ann!

  18. vk on June 11th, 2007 3:15 am

You have so very, very nice love poems,

What I like most is this; NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE

Thank you for sharing these poems….

SexyMom: when i found my notebook, i told myself i would share them, so that others can have the same mushy feeling walking back to high school’s memory lane.
