Blog Action Day 2008–POVERTY in verse

Here is my contribution, in the form of verse, to Blog Action Day 2008: Filipinos take a stand on poverty.
Not A Single Person Deserves to be Poor
While the general trend through time is for the poor to become poorer
And the rich—they become richer and richer, I cannot help but wonder
Can someone come up with a sure fire solution to the widespread poverty
Afflicting millions the world over. What will it take to eradicate this reality?
International NGOs, development banks, churches, rich countries
Financing firms, charitable organizations, individuals, philanthropists
Have come to the rescue, through loans, technical assistance grants
And direct aid, still poverty is evident despite infusing these funds
I know what poverty looks like—it looks back right smack in the eye
Striking a discordant note, one cannot forget, the hardest of hearts cry
Poverty is not just an issue of lack of money, it is a pool of many things
Global concerns like war, famine, hunger, sickness, a litany of sufferings.
Not a single person on earth deserves to be poor, but this is stark reality
Aren’t all creatures created to be equal to enjoy the world’s bounty?
It’s high time that all nations sincerely unite, work hand in hand
And as individuals we can do our share, in our own little way, yes, we can!

the wind I can’t see but I can feel it it is there, I am sure caressing my face almost a kiss enveloping my whole being a warm embrace making me feel alive glow, delight, smile a pleasant rendezvouz
it blows intensely at times and I am swept away bringing me to heights never imagined I forget myself take me, please do, I plead then i go with the flow of the wind to the south, to the north to the east, to the west a dizzying union with the wind, my wind
wake me up, when it becomes too much more than what I can handle and bring me back to earth where I truly belong my feet firmly on the ground be the wind that gently blows the wind that I can feel always there, even if I can’t see always there, never to go away to caress my face, envelop my whole being -

Indeed, there the poor cannot be blamed for being poor, although in some ways, a change in their attitude and belief can help lift them up from their present situation. However there are a lot of factors besides that weigh them down to poverty – one of which is politics.

Poverty is an old problem that has never been solved. I guess the cause of it all is greed. Other people are poor because there are others who are so greedy. If we solve greed, we solve poverty.
