Whether you are working in an office or in the comforts of home, improving work performance and doing the best you can should be a continuous process. Work performance is affected by how you handle yourself, your job, and how you deal with other people in your job.
Here are a few tips to improve work performance and be the best you can.
Know your responsibilities. Working means you handle certain responsibilities, and that you’re expected to fulfill them. Know the things that you have to do. Be clear about them, and avoid doing less than what’s required from you. Working more than what’s required from you may be a good or bad thing, depending on the results you produce and the effects the added responsibilities have on you.
Know yourself. Know your talents, strengths, and capabilities. Know your weaknesses and flaws as well. When you know yourself thoroughly, you know which aspects to make use of, and which aspects need changing or developing. Knowing your limitations means you know when to stop or refuse work, so that you don’t work inefficiently. This makes you use your time and effort in the things that you can do well.
Attend seminars. There are plenty of workshops and seminars that aim to improve work performance. Make notes from these seminars and review them constantly, and apply the things you’ve learned during your daily work.
Read self-help books. Self-help books offer a variety of topics that are geared to improving various aspects about you, including work performance. Browse the net and bookshops to find books you’ll benefit from.
Improve yourself. Improving yourself, such as your skills, education, and attitudes, greatly affects how you work. If you work with other people, seek feedback to know what needs improvement and how to improve them. Improve the skills that are needed for your job through constant and correct practice. Improve your education by constantly updating your knowledge and taking up courses when possible. Improve your attitude by developing a well-rounded personality, sound values and a strong mind. Seek to improve yourself with the goal of improving your work performance.
Relate well with your workmates. Your work performance depends on the cooperation of other people around you. Develop a good relationship with your co-workers, bosses and subordinates. Know when and how to delegate tasks.
Use your resources wisely. Use the most out of your time. Know how to manage your time by reading time management information from books and articles. Use what you have, in terms of talents, skills, and efforts so that they make the best results with the least stress on your part.
Keep yourself healthy. Work performance is largely dependent on health in all its aspects: physical, emotional and psychological. Keep yourself healthy at all levels for as much as you can. Take breaks when you need to, and seek the help of health professionals.
Be competitive. Challenges drive people to surpass boundaries and improve themselves. Be competitive with other people and yourself. Make sure that the challenges you give yourself are achievable, as straining yourself to no end is counterproductive.
When you’re improving yourself, keep track of how much you have done. Don’t focus on what you still lack, because perfectionism drains your energy instead of empowering you. Improve little by little, until it becomes a rewarding habit that produces big results.

I would like to comment on “improve yourself”
How we can improve ourself, if we know what we are doing that is correct but you are not appreciated for you work ever. What do you say about office politics and criticism.

We need to always become sincere in our work. We should think of the whole organization rather than thinking of our Boss or our selves. We should give what is due.
