SONA 2008: PGMA said texting to other networks now down to P0.50, but it is not so! I wonder why.

After keenly listening to PGMA’s SONA (full text here), and after trying to hold on to a flicker of hope (in reference to an earlier post), I am sharing with you a discussion I had with the kids 3 hours after the SONA.

“Mama, I just texted a friend and checked my balance. How come a text message to another network still costs P1? Didn’t the President say in the SONA that texting from one network to another now costs only P0.50 ?”

“Was the President lying?”

“Or maybe it is still a plan?  and it has not been implemented yet?”

“But I thought I heard she said—texting to another network is now down to P0.50, which means NOW, isn’t it? Not tomorrow, not next week, but NOW.”

This made me think again. The opposition congressmen, senators and the men in the streets were cynical about the SONA and all the facts, figures, promises, etc. that were mentioned. We will never know if indeed they are true or not. But at least for TEXT MESSAGING which PGMA said IS A FILIPINO WAY OF LIFE, anyone can check. Even the men in the streets, in the shanties, in the barrios will pick on this. They might now be rejoicing, that at least for text messaging, the costs have now been cut in half. Maybe, this is the only thing which struck a lot of people, among all the items in the SONA.

In the SONA, she said:

Texting is a way of life. I asked the telecoms to cut the cost of messages between networks. They responded. It is now down to 50 centavos.

I DID CHECK, and see the results below. They may not be FANCY powerpoint presentations as were presented in the SONA, but they were not invented. The photos were taken using my ever reliable MacBook’s Photo Booth. Sorry about the cropping quality. But I swear, the images DO NOT LIE.

.

(1) I first checked the current balance—P289.09.

(2) Then sent a text message to one of my daughters, Chato. She is a GLOBE pre-paid subscriber, with mobile number 09163xxxxx.

(3) I again checked the current balance—P288.09. This means that I was charged P1. That’s all right. PGMA said “text messaging to different network is P0.50”. Anyway, she did not say “text messaging to the same network.” But paying more when texting to the same network than when texting to a different network is ridiculous, don’t you think so?

(4) Then, I sent a text message to hubby, who was on his way to another out of town trip. Hubby is a post-paid SMART subscriber. His mobile number os 09209xxxxx.

(5) And again, I checked the current balance—P287.09. PATAY! How can I tell my daughter that PGMA was LYING. Now, I have to check on the SONA again, wait for a replay, and listen to her exact words. I do not want my young kids to be VERY DISILLUSIONED about a LYING PRESIDENT.

If they are still plans, and yet for implementation, she should have said:  “Texting is a way of life. I asked the telecoms to cut the cost of messages between networks. They responded. It WILL BE down to 50 centavos soon.”

Oh, well, something to look forward to, but WHEN? I’m sure it will take a lot of discussions, maybe eve hearings and even legal proceedings before this can be implemented.

well, the P0.50 text charge that she is claiming is only valid until Oct2008, meaning it is just temporary, according to our sister company, Smart, it seems that they just heed the president’s plea but it is just temporary only (meaning in time for SONA only). The very reason why for both Globe and Smart they are both claiming that it is just a promotional charge.

I just hope na inununa na lang tutukan ang crisis sa bigas.

Yan nga lang ang me “masigabong palakpakan” noong SONA eh :D

This .50 won’t happen, the telecoms would not allow it.

It’s a no-brainer, actually. Mrs Glora Macapagal-Arroyo just made an ass of herself when she made such a declaration, which the people realized soon after na hindi din pala totoo dahil promo lang yun ng mga telecom companies.

She thought the people are stupid. Sino ngayon ang katawa-tawa at sinungaling?

Wala na ba ibang mas matitinong accomplishments ang administrasyon niya kaya pati presyo ng text messaging ipanloloko at ipambobola niya sa mga tao?

What a lying shithead she is.

That 50 centavo-text promo is just the last inserted piece on her speech, maybe the speech writer didn’t bother to verify it first in a hurry to make GMA look good again esp. to the masses. On the next presscon, I bet GMA would be saying—I am sorry, I lied…What do we expect from a lady who called a comelec commissioner to add at least a million votes in her favor…tsk.tsk…
