Hacked? Bugged? Glitched?

For a while, I had the scare of my life. While checking on my blog, the server just went down. I called up the guy who keeps the server running and maintains it—fortunately he was either still awake or awake already to report the matter. He assured me that there was just a temporary surge of traffic, but would normalize in a while.

True enough, the server was up in a few minutes. I approved a comment on my latest post, which is a HOT issue, each of us having our own take or stand for that matter, intelligent that we all are.  I noticed that the comments on the post were not there. Curious, I made a random check on the other posts—the comments were missing. And HORROR of HORRORS! When I checked the general comments section inside wordpress, all the comments were missing. Zero. Nada. Zilch!

No matter how I checked with the limited skills and understanding that I have on tinkering or is it tweaking the insides of my blog, I was stuck with the bare truth that I have lost all my comments of 2 years. And it remained like that for more than 2 hours. I was already fretting. Monica said, “Trust me mom, you will have your comments back, just be patient.”

Hacked? Bugged? Glitched? I have no idea. I just wanted my comments back.
God, please give me patience now, I prayed.

I was just glad that the guy who maintains the server said that he has a back up as of 30 September. He could roll back and upload the back up, but that would mean all of the Racoma blogs, which are all in one domain, will revert to their form as of 30 September. All October posts and changes would be lost, as a consequence.

How I loved it, but it would have been inconsiderate of me or selfish maybe, if all of the other Racoma blogs were affected—we all belong to one domain. BA said he did not mind, Angelo, too, while all the others did not have blog activities in October. But Angelo was out of the house and would not be back in another hour—he needed to send an email to authorize the owner of the server to upload the back up. I could not convince the guy who maintains the server to carry out the back up immediately. The email should come from Angelo, he insisted. In the meantime, I manually backed up my October posts, with the intention of uploading them afterwards. Smart, I thought.

Then a bright idea came to mind—I changed my password, just in case someone was hacking my site, so that no further damage could be done. I made a really difficult password. Chances are, one of these days, I will lose it or forget where I kept it. Ten minutes after I pressed the update profile button, I heard Monica shouting excitedly from the other room,

“Mom! your comments are back!”
I could not believe it. And I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw for myself. Yeah, the action person that I am, it pays to be patient…sometimes.

Was my blog hacked? Or was there just a wordpress glitch or bug? I have no idea, what is important is that I have my comments back.

I am now reminded of how Haze’s blog was hacked. Until now the hacker uses her email and YM duping those in her email list of money and negotiating the sale of globe call cards. Read her story here and be forewarned.

Thank you Tita Dine for blogging about this. I would like everyone to know that YM’s are being hacked too not only emails. So to everyone please be careful, never open a file even from families and friends. If they want to share their pictures ask them to attached pictures or give you a link it is safer. Please spread this incident as I don’t want this to happen to you. Let us be more vigilant !

Ang hula ko, something is wrong somewhere…. ha ha ha.

Am happy that everything is back to normal.

But honestly, the host must give you some logical explanation on this…
