DLSU still has a chance to be in the Magic 4, that is if DLSU beats NU and UE beats UST on Thursday, 10 September.
23 August 2009
The Ateneo Blue Eagles are now assured of their place in the Final Four after their triumph over the UST Growling Tigers, with a score of 80 for ADMU and 70 for UST. Jeffrey Long contributed his career best 21 points that includes 5 long shots out of 6. It was a LONG game, or so they say. Al-Hussaini though riddled with fouls contributed 14 points, with Jai Reyes and Nico Salvo contributing at least 10 points each.
In the second game UE beat FEU at 87-72, denying FEU an outright chance to the Final Four.
9 August 2009
Ateneo wins 1st encounter against La Salle in UAAP Season 72 (76-72), another EPIC Game
Ateneo wins the first encounter with De La Salle in this Season’s UAAP Games, the last game in the First Round, with a score of 76 for Ateneo and 72 for La Salle.
In the last 20 seconds La Salle’s Bringas scored a 3-point shot to narrow Ateneo’s lead to only 1. Ryan Buenafe’s 2 free throws gave Ateneo a 3-point lead, but La Salle’s Bagatsing tied the game at 67 all, with 0.8 seconds remaining for an overtime.
There were 15,707 spectators—Araneta’s official count.
Both schools were in yellow. it’s only President Cory Aquino who could unite both rival teams—in solidarity.

2 Sets of Games Tomorrow 9 August
There will be 2 sets of games tomorrow at the Araneta, pitting the current top 4 contenders: UE vs FEU at 11:30 am, and DLSU vs ADMU at 5 pm. This was adopted by UAAP and the event planners ABS-CBN to accommodate more fans who want to watch these blockbuster games—THERE WILL BE DIFFERENT SETS OF TICKETS.
The gates will open at 10:30 am for the FEU-UE games and at 4 pm for the ADMU-DLSU games.
According to TicketNet Administration Office, premium tickets have been sold out, but limited number of general admission tickets will be sold at the TicketNet booths at the Big Dome starting at 9 am for the UE-FEU match, and at 2 pm for the ADMU-DLSU match.
26 July 2009
The winless won over the undefeated—and it was so far the Season’s shocker! The UP Maroons defeated the ADMU Blue Eagles by 10 points, with a score of 68 for UP and 58 for ADMU. There was no stopping the UP Maroons from the 2nd quarter with ADMU committing one mistake after another, the highest lead of UP being 11 points. The UP Maroons were rejoicing—it was like a championship game for them, with Coach Castro comparing the games to a David and Goliath experience. It’s a wake up call for the Ateneo Blue Eagles who must have been over-confident coming into the games lacking in energy as Coach Norman Black admitted.
In an earlier game, DLSU Green Archers defeated the AdU Falcons, 64-63 after an overtime. The Archers dedicated their win to Former President Cory. “President Aquino has a special place in our hearts,” said Pumaren, who attended a healing mass for Mrs. Aquino before proceeding to the venue. “And this game was for her.”
Ateneo, UST and FEU are tied with 3 wins and 1 loss each; with DLSU and UE having 2 wins and 2 losses each. NU, ADU and UP have 1 win each and 3 losses.

How fast time flies—now we are in UAAP Season 72. Time once again for family bonding, with trips to the Araneta cheering with all our might. Now, it’s not only the BLUEs we are cheerng for—we will also be cheering for the MAROONs, with 3 kids now in UP.
Opening of UAAP Season 72 will be on Saturday, 11 July 2009 at 1 pm. FEU will be host. The first game will be at 2 pm bwtween UST and Adamson University, while the second game will be at 4 pm between DLSU and UE. ADMU will see action with FEU on Sunday at 4 pm after the UP vs NU games at 2 pm.
This season, the Blue Eagles are vying for a second championship with last season’s MVP Rabeh Al Hussaini leading the team. Chris Tiu will be sorely missed as he has already completed 5 seasons. DLSU will be without JV Casio and Rico Maierhofer, but watch out for Aevie Bringas from San Sebastian College High School.
Other venue for the games will be the Philsport Arena beginning Sunday 19 July.
As in the past years (UAAP Season 70 and UAAP Season 71), schedules, statistics, updates and highlights of UAAP Season 72 will be seen here at The D Spot.
See you there!

UAAP was conceived to display the sportsmanship and magnanimity among the university members. However, whenever I watch the games, I am really disappointed hearing comments that are very unbecoming of the ateneans and lasallites. It was never taught in UST. As a thomasian, we were formed and informed about what life really is. There’s no such thing as”invincibility”.
