Congrats to the UE Warriors! Yesterday’s game between UE and DLSU was well-fought, brought out the best of both teams, as was the game between ADMU and DLSU last Thursday. These are the types of games that fans want to watch. UE’s win gives an advantage to ADMU. If ADMU wins against NU on Saturday, ADMU will have the twice to beat advantage for the playoff to the finals.

UE’s SWEEP gave them the sure chance to play the championships, while FEU’s win over UST has forced a playoff between FEU and UST on Monday, the winner taking the fourth place in the eliminations.

SUCH SWEET VICTORY! So so sweet—Ateneo wins the 30 August game against UST. With 2 seconds to go, and with UST winning by 1 point, that long shot by Kirk Long made the difference at the end of the game. Reminiscent of Kramer’s 1-second buzzer beater in last season’

s championship round.

AND here we are at home, not content with watching the game live, savoring the replay—

cheering, with the same excitement as if we were watching the game live.

It was ONE BIG FIGHT! Of course, each player contributed his worth—

a well deserved win.

Final Scores: ADMU72, UST71

I guess all UST wanted today was to win today’s game—which they almost did, as they were leading in most occasions, up to as much as 10 points. UST must have preferred to lose a game to UP (oh gosh! will UP make it to a sweep—

with no win at the end of the season?) rather than losing a game to Ateneo.

Earlier, FEU won the game against UP, with final scores: FEU-83, UP-61.

I was looking at the statistics for Men’s Junior Basketball. ADMU has won 6 out of 6 games. 7th game was supposed to be today afternoon, but it seems that with the suspension of classes, the games did not push through. A big congratulations for the ADMU Juniors Team!

On Thursday, 9 August, Men’s Basketball will kick off wth the 2nd round.

The UAAP board of trustees has ruled with finality to dismiss La Salle’s game protest versus rival Ateneo.

After a two-hour emergency meeting Sunday, league president Fr. Ermito de Sagon said the board “adopted and affirmed the findings and recommendations” of Commissioner Ed Cordero.

Based on latest reports, the UAAP Technical Committee did not favor DLSU’s protest, they say “for lack of merit”. It will now be up to the UAAP Board to render its final decision. Final decision is expected by Sunday, 4 August.

As you probably know by now, DLSU placed a protest on the ADMU win in last Sunday’s games. DLSU lost in overtime, 80-77. DLSU claimed that the Blue Eagles allegedly fielded two of their foreign players at the same time in the 2nd quarter, which is against the UAAP rules. The matter is under review by the UAAP Commissioner, who is expected to submit his findings by Wednesday, 1 August, to the UAAP Board who has the final say on the protest.

I still find the protest stupid. Wala namang effect sa final result ng game eh. Yes, they were both on the floor together, but they didn’t PLAY together. The incident even gave DLSU two free throws plus possession, tapos foul pa si Jai. O diba? Hindi ba mas advantageous pa nga sa kanila yun?

Pero enlighten me. Kung nangyari nga ang ganung infraction, forfeited ba agad ang game? I mean, dapat ba, “oh two foreigners, on the floor, together. Forfeit the game, we win.”

Ateneo made a mistake but honestly claimed their mistake while La Salle has the right to complaint about Ateneo breaking the rule for fielding 2 foreign players in the court.
I think the UAAP should give a rematch to the two teams. Para fair nalang. UAAP should not forfeit the game.

Ateneo had a mistake thats given but then i’ve also come to realize that what if La Salle won.. will they file a protest against Ateneo? or they will just don’t mind at all… I guess in a way La Salle can’t accept the fact that Ateneo won…

While the comments “the Ateneo violation did not affect the results” is a logical view, the protest just proved the inconsistencies of UAAP board.

Let’s look at history ….

In the DLSU-dominated 1991 season, a violation was made by La Salle in a “championship game” (1st game: DLSU had the twice-to-beat advantage) wherein Espinosa, after 5 fouls, erroneously remained on the court for 4 more playing seconds before finally being pulled out. La Salle went won the game easily (by 7 points, supposedly bigger but the dying seconds were “let go” seconds), and logically the championship.

However, FEU filed a protest … despite the logic that “the outcome of the game could not have been changed” UAAP board ordered for a re-play of the ENTIRE game. To to this DLSU “protested” in return by not playing the championship games (in effect 2 games), literally giving FEU the title on a golden platter.

The parallelism of the two situations are evident but the decisions of the UAAP board on those situation is amusing.

The Protest of DLSU on the Ateneo game did not win La Salle the game but rather showed the cracks of the UAAP board.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST UAAP BASKETBALL SEASON I HAVE SEEN!

As of now, it is still a toss-up for the teams.
- NU still has a fighting chance;
- Ateneo can soon jump from 5th to 4th or to 3rd … (even 2nd!!) if things go well for them (same for NU);
- DLSU, UST and FEU are jammed into 2nd dand can drop ranks anytime (and right behind them are Ateneo and NU);
- Mukhang UE lang ang merong guarantee (but remember what happened to Ateneo in 2006 and DLSU in 2002… kailangan din nilang mag-ingat, bilog ang bola).
MASAYA ITO!!

I hope all this level of excitement remains ….. regardless if LA SALLE WINS or THE OTHERS LOSE

Asa naman yung UST…maybe one of the reasons why the warrior lost to the tigers last season is their mental toughness…

A sweep now will give UE an automatic seat in the finals ….

Dati, a double round sweep will automatically give the Championship.

The last time this happened (kung tama ang recall ko) was in 1993 with UST (paki correct ako kung mali guys).

La Salle almost also made the double-round-sweep-automatic-champ in 1990, but 3 of the games were forfeited by the UAAP board due to some issues with Noli Locsin ..

Looking back, the game could have gone either way … siguro, if there were still 30 secs more, mahirap sabihin kung sino ang mananalo.

This is the best UAAP season I have seen (hindi ako biased dahil nanalo DLSU ha) ... There were so many Overtime games, 1/2/3 point games (close!!),playoffs just to determine rankings, “playoffs” for the right to play in the playoffs, rubber matches … even NU muddled up the Final 4 proceedings.

I hope next season will have a more “balanced” league … I know UP will bounce back, di papayag yun na cellar dweller again… Adamson always has potentials … NU has tasted some sweet victories and will definitely get addicted to winning …

wow!..DLSU pala nakapsok sa finals!..congrats sa inyo deserving naman kayo na makaharap ang UE sa finals..

to ADMU, nice effort d lang talaga para sa inyo yung game na yun pero madami pang uaap seasons na darating kaya bawi na lang kayo!..

sana masweep ng UE ang finals alam kong kaya ng UE yan matagal na din kaming walang championship crown, so i think this is our time!..hehehe…

basta UE Warriors don’t be over confident againts DLSU they have pushed us to the limit last time na makalaban natin sila so ibig sabihin they are capable of giving us our 1st loss or even stealing our championship crown!..hehehe…

basta dapat malinis ang laban saka walang away para maganda!..

LA SALLE! Puro kayo yabang! though it’s much better kung kayo kalaban ng UE s finals coz you’re much easier to beat! hahaha! I’ll be watching game 2 also known as UE’s Day! hahaha! Puro kayo hangin! Yung pandak sa team nyo na #5, hindi ko na pag aaksayahan ng panahon alamin ang pangalan, larong kalye! nang-aakap pa, malamang bading yun!

anyways, UE has proven it’s strength… being unbeaten by any team, and still has to fight for finals… we have earned the right to be the champion. unlike UST, they became champs even without fighting for the finals… Oo na uste, swerte kyo, bulok ang rules non, fit for the unfit!

I have been reading the comments posted here, and just a few hours ago, the unexpected has happened, DLSU beat UE, sweeping the championship series in such a sweet victory.
If you were at Araneta during the game, you would have appreciated the way the DLSU band and pep squad cheered for the players of the other teams who were awarded, using their own cheers, such a great gesture of sportsmanship!

We see a lot of sincere congratulatory messages from UE folks … Thank you!

To the other UE people,

We also get tons of soUrgrapEs … So Pinoy, wasting effort justifying lackluster performance with excuses.

If at first you don’t succeed, honesty is the best policy … admit it, UE lost fair and square

UE had the open and easy shots and missed (or did La Salle pay the ball not to go in?)... admit it, UE lost fair and square

Both teams were missing left and right BUT UE missed more … admit it, UE lost fair and square

Also I am getting mixed comments from UE people … the gentlemen are politely confirming it was a fair and square, and the their boys choked … and then there are the rest who just can’t accept defeat, and their communication style shows their level of maturity.

Admit it, UE lost fair and square … Your other colleagues has accepted it, why can’t you? Or are your basketball rules different from theirs (and ours)??
