True Confessions: My Children Are Abnormal (Part 2) - - The Alien Tongue

It took me a lot of pleading (please, please), coaxing, cajoling (or else I will not advance your allowance!) and bribing (I’ll buy you a new set of Mac make up, or another Tiffany necklace, shopping at Zara, even a US trip-cum-New Jersey rhinoplasty), to get Monica’s permission to post this picture – the Alien Tongue. Is it 3 tongues? or a clover tongue? I really do not know how to call this tongue contortion, I have searched the net, but could not find anything similar, though 1 or 2 of her siblings could make a single W out of their tongues. Genetic perhaps? Monica is child no. 2, 23 years old, a third year student at the Ateneo de Manila School of Law.
Photos below shows Monica with boyfriend, Christian.

Wow, that’s unbelievable. An ability, definitely!
(:
Ang galing! pwedeng pang guinness book of records
Now, i’m rolling my tongue trying this. I can only do one roll, not 3.
This is definitely genetic, can anyone else in your family do it?
Pang-guinness nga ata?
that’s really cool. I can only roll one fold.
haha, i can only do 1 fold
but I can move my ears… can anyone of them do this too?
dimaks – not one of my kids can move their ears. but I CAN, now we have one thing in common.
noemi, pining – i, too, can roll one fold
it’s unbelievable, kyels and pining – i am thinking of uploading the tongue movements in you tube (LOL), but again, she might ask for the moon!
Amazing! It is something that has never been done before. She should be in the Guinness book of records.
Wow! Incredible! Crikey! Jeez!
How is she able to do that?
I can sing my ABCs backwards.
sr enrique, you shoot so well that i would love you to take snapshots of the alien tongue, then submit the photos to guinness as most of our dear readers, belle, leah, and the others jestly suggest.
jangelo – what are you a racoma for if you cannot recite your ABCs backwards? am sure pia and baby cate will be able to do the same when they grow older. try folding your tongue, many times over, chances are, it is in the genes!
wow, amazing!! galing ah! my brother can do one curve, but this is great!
That is definitely unique! I wouldn’t be surprised if the media starts calling.
thanks, elizar.
Wil! that’s frightening.
i can’t see the pics. perhaps someone should send it to me. hehe.
btw, my dad can curve a ‘W’ with his toung…
woow! that’s some wild tongue. You might get an invitation to Jay Leno for that!
mr nice ash – thanks. i emailed you the picture. the tongue is 1-1/2 W, and really folded!
kk – that’s an overkill!
Weird. That’s all I can say. I can only do one fold, though I can move my tongue side ways, both sides, to make at look as though it’s standing on it’s end.
That makes three of us with the ear thing, btw.
That’s fascinating! I couldn’t even fold my tongue the way others do.
Prab and Rach – until now, i, myself still react differently every time we talk about the alien tongue, from cool, to weird, to fascinating, to unbelievable, etc.
now, prab, dimaks and i could form a team for moving ears.
Last night, my sister and i were observing my baby son, Nate’s tongue as i think i saw something unusual with the way it..er.. curls.. I’m at a loss for the a proper term hehe… We couldn’t believe our eyes. then I saw your post today. I think Nate’s is an alien tongue in the making! LOL!
Wow, this is amazing! Her tongue must be really flexible. But it can straighten to look normal right? Btw, she’s a beauty!
chateau – i’m excited to see Nate’s baby alien tongue. oh, that would be cute!
sesame – if she can’t straighten her tongue, then i will be afraid. thanks, she’s a beauty, inside and out.
i can join for the moving ears. but only the left ear…
thanks for the pics. i got it and it’s soooo… uhg…
Aaaah…. Sexy Mom, my comment didn’t get posted. I think I commented here two days ago. I think are blogs are spamming each other… I retrieved your comment from my akismet spam too.
Hey, Monica and I are both from Maryknoll High School and Ateneo Law School.
I could twist my tongue once… but her tongue is awesome!
Your daughter is very pretty Sexy Mom!
3-1/2 of us now for moving ears, prab, dimaks, myself and 1/2 of mr nice ash
toe – i was wondering earlier where my comment landed.
when monica saw your comment she opened your site, and was impressed. is it the miriam/ateneo bond?
Wow! This is the first time for me to see this kind of tongue-curling! Nakakaaliw.
And oh, your daughter is very lovely!
Kahit anong pilit ko, di ko talaga magawa yung ginawa ng daughter mo hehehe. Pwedeng pang ” Riepley’s believe it or not”.
Bloghopped from Tita Toe’s blog =D
Ripley’s Believe it or not – =D
can’t even do the single contortion of my tongue
other abnormalities I can think of are the hitchiker’s thumb and those who can raise their eyebrows alternaely.
I have a hitchhiker’s thumb, btw
thanks, Kathy!
KD, thanks for visiting. as to ripley’s, am sure it will not happen, my kids swear that they have 1 or 2 friends who could do it. and 3 of her siblings can do it, too.
tutubi – i had to think hard what a hitchhiker’s thumb is until monica demonstrated it to me. i thought you were fond of hitchhiking (LOL)
Tongue clover ability is usually a dominant female trait passed on from mother to daughter(s) it is more common with females that have dark hair and eyes. There is a gene that makes a special connection from the females brain to her tongue to allow her to do this. This gene is usually cancelled in males although not entirely so. The main reason for females posessing tongue clover ability goes back to prehistoric man and woman. When an infant was old enough to come off of breast feeding but still had not developed the ability to cut and chew their own food, the mother would chew their food up for them and then insert a small portion into the infants mouth for them to eat via the mother’s ability to “clover” her tongue. If you look at the shape of the tongue in this position you can see how this would have worked as the tongue forms a sort of spout. There have been studies that have proven that females who still posess this trait also have very good mathematical ability i.e. the ability to do calculus in their brain without writing anything down.
hi, dave. that’s very informative. i never thought about that.
you know, one of my boys (i have 4) could do the same, and all of my girls (3 of them) could also do it. but i can’t.
as to mathematical ability, monica has always avoided math, that is why she opted for a course in communication arts, and is now in her 3rd year in law school.
I agree mostly with what Dave has written above. My girlfriend can make the W-shape(tongue clover), roll it into a tube using her lips AND not using her lips(rare trait), flip it over inside of her mouth either side and bend it in half. She can touch her nose and the cleft in her chin easily. However she has natural blond hair and blue eyes not dark hair or eyes and she gets these tongue traits from her dad which is extremely rare. Her hair and eye color she gets from her mom and the one tongue trait she has inherited from her mom is that when she yawns, her tongue raises up inside of her mouth to form a perfect bowl or “cup” shape. She absolutely cannot keep her tongue down when yawning. Also when her tongue forms this position the frenulum or “web” (the long membrane attached under the center of the tongue) pulls down at the tip causing her tongue tip to split at the center so that a wide V-shaped cleft appears. It looks like a butterfly spreading it’s wings and in fact she calls this her “butterfly tongue”. She has done this apparently since birth and her mom’s tongue does the same thing when she yawns. Another interesting point that Dave brought up was the math ability. She has never gone to college and did not even take pre-algebra in high school, however, since then she has totally taught herself algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics. She has passed perfectly more online math tests than I can remember, and has easily scored higher than almost all others taking these tests who have taken high school/college level mathematics. She is quite the little “natural” mathematician!
that’s very informative, Eddie, and impressive! it’s amazing how your girlfriend can do such wonders with her tongue. she can do much more than my daughter could!
btw, i foind out that 5 of my 7 children could do such antics, some fully, some partly
thanks, Eddie!

wowww its to nice, this is extremllllllllllyyyyyyyy beautiful:D
Just found out today my nephew can do the same thing ….. he’s only 18 months old! He sticks his tongue out and curls it into a weird clover shape when he concentrates. No one else in the family can do this, and as he’s a boy I suppose this must be rare too. He also has the ‘butterfly tongue’ eddie mentioned when he yawns. Not sure if he’s good at math yet though …. stil a bit young to tell.
Sexy Mom: perhaps, just perhaps, there is someone in the family in the 2nd degree or what who can do the same. i have not researched, so i cannot yet find a logical explanation. thanks!
Damn it! I can do that! I was looking through a Ripleys belive it or not, and i saw a picture of someone doing this….....grrr
