UPDATE: 22 May 2008 at 9 am (21 May 2008 in the US)
THIS POST WAS PREPARED ON 21 MAY (with a few blanks to be filled out), ready to be published as soon as DAVID COOK’s WIN was announced. I didnt have a back up post in case David Archuleta won.
America has voted—97.5 million votes, a smashing 23 million votes more than last year! AI calls this year a phenomenal year.
With David getting 56% of votes, the other David getting 44%.
That is, David Cook getting 54.6 million votes and David Archuleta getting 42.9 million votes.
We were right all the time. Even if Cook did not get Simon’s yes in yesterday’s finale, he still was America’s favorite, the world’s favorite, the Filipinos’ favorite, my family’s favorite—my favorite. Way back in the audition, he was already IT when he made Brian Adamson’s song EVERYTHING I DO, I DO IT FOR YOU, current and cool. Even a “baduy” song becomes current and cool. MUSIC OF THE NIGHT from the Phantom of the Opera was a hit, too. He reintroduced Mariah Carey’s YOU’LL ALWAYS BE MY BABY that even teengers sing it now, my teenagers included.
Same as in life, we never can tell what is in store for the future. Archuleta may have gotten the nod of Simon yesterday, and it was his shining moment. Most everyone thought it would be him, but see what happened? Now Cook gets the big WIN. Monica and I didn’t only clap our hands, we jumped and cried for joy, shouted to our hearts’ delight.
Anyways, CONGRATULATIONS to both DAVIDS—they deserve to be the top 2. They have their own fans, and they have a good future.
Btw—It was heartwarming to watch Reynaldo Lapuz perform, complete with band and all. Another Proud Pinoy Moment.
UPDATE 21 May 2008 at 9 am (20 May 2008 in the US)
I could not find the finals of American Idol on cable TV. My brother in New Jersey suddenly came online (thanks to SKYPE) and offered to focus his laptop on his television. There were statics in between (thanks to Bayan’s efficient service these past few weeks where I get disconnected and connected every so often), but I was able to view the 3 songs each of the 2 Davids. The replay will be worth viewing.
Judges’ verdict? They were unanimous for Archuleta. Simon did not like all 3 songs of Cook—he said wrong choice of songs, and I feel like agreeing. But I stil like him to win.
America votes today for the next 4 hours, and tomorrow the winner will be announced. For sure, it will be a DAVID who will win. Archuleta? or Cook? Let’s watch on live television tomorrow.

All of us in the family are one in saying that this season’s (7th) American Idol is the best so far. We have enjoyed each show, even each replays, with the millions of people the world over, from the auditions to eliminations to the finals—22 May, that is. Yes, American Idol is addicting. It is a family affair—watched, enjoyed together, talked about. And before the season ends, let me thank American Idol for another music-filled season.
Ahh, music—the language of the soul. It complements the magic, the mystery. The music in American Idol brings out not only the best in each contestant, but to the audience and listeners as well. It brings them from one tune to another, one emotion to another, one memory to another, and many more. At the end of each show, one keeps wanting for more, such that replays and You Tube segments are very much sought after.
We had our favorites, the 2 Davids (Archuleta and Cook), Jason Castro and Michael Johns. Oh, yes, we liked Ramiele Malubay, but it seemed that the others had more power, more voice, more star material. Toward the middle of the season we already felt that the males would dominate it this time, and hoping that JASON Castro would make it to the top. Syesha Mercado was just lucky, we felt that other girls were better in the beginning. She always ended up in the bottom after every show. But toward the end, with sheer determination she gave the 2 Davids a scare.
Now, in the finals, it will be David vs David. The other David (Hernandez) was just not lucky. What if it had been David vs David vs David? Would it have been fun? We like David Archuleta very much—he has youth (he’s 17), he’s got talent, he is promising, he has the voice and everything else. David Cook on the other hand, also has everything (he is 24), perhaps even more.
Either of the 2 Davids will be fine with us to win. Anyway, they’re both winners already. But for us, David Cook will run away as the winner. How we like him!
You, who do you think will win?

Cook for the win!
david cook!
from the beginning, i was rooting for him to win.
I’m rooting for Archuleta! He sings really well for a boy his age; me thinks.
(:
Interestingly enough, this season has had the worst ratings in all seven seasons for Idol.
Biased ako toward rockers, of course – go David Cook! I’ve moved back to i.ph, by the way.
David Cook!!
I have to admit I haven’t caught a single episode. I wonder if they’re available on DVD.
I want David Cook to win but I have to admit that with Archuleta’s teen fan base, he will be hard to beat. It is a popularity contest after all.
i like Syesha Mercado. but I vote for David Cooke. He has a star personality.
People here at home prefer David Cook, because they say he’s more substantial than David Archuleta, yet Archuleta is the more popular one. I think they are both skilled, however between the two of them, what one lacks in maturity one makes up for popularity, and vice versa hehe. Who will win? Let’s ask Simon when he’s in a good mood. It’s more exciting than consulting a crystal ball, agree? Yipee!
It’s strange but I haven’t watched a single AI show this season.
Archuleta seems to have a huge fanbase. Cook should win. But I’ll prepare myself if Archuleta goes home with the title.
haha
I also think that Archuleta has more fans… I think, hehe
and that might be a bit hard to beat xD
i actually think that Cook is better but I like Archuleta more, hehe
I like both David’s anyway so whoever will win, I’ll be happy
I’m rooting for David Cook.
i love david cook too! i was blown away by his version of mariah’s always be my baby. winner!
I am betting on Cook too though I know Archuleta sings like an angel (josh groban- like di ba . Iba ang aura (bad boy appeal) , iba ang raw material and style ni Cook—so original. I remember early on Simon remarked that he had no charisma. His response: “fortunately, you’re not the only one to judge” or something like that.
I agree it is the best year of AI so far, although i have followed only three yata.
Like them both, but I prefer Archuleta to be honest
David Cook! i won’t watch American Idol anymore if he does not win.
Cook should win….BUT
I’m so excited! GO DAVID COOK!
sexymom, hi. Sus, tagal ko rin nakavisit dito.
Dami ko na namiss.
Basta david cook. Kasi magaling siya kumanta, at magluto. Saaaayyyy??? hihi
Yes, yes! This made my day! Thanks for the update, Dine. I lost my interest to watch the verdict when Archuleta got the judges’ approval yesterday, but you’re right – David Cook has won the hearts of many!
Super mangiyak ngiyak buong family ko when he was announced the winner
Grabe! Woo.
David Cook deserves to win.
Congrats to David Cook. He cooked it very well.
I think the best man won! Just as I thought, the winner should be decided on their performance throughout the season, not just on one night. Way to go! If anyone wants to sign a group congrats card for him, I found one at: http://www.groupcard.com/c/jIBdia_Dr-n
Very, very cool!
Awww … I’m disappointed that David Archuleta didn’t win but it’s okay. Congratulations to David Cook!
(:
i love david cook! his “music of the night” was the only AI performance i watched all season. the next time i watched AI was during the finale already!
sigh, i agree on the efficiency of bayan dsl. our household also halts whenever it gets disconnected and we have to reset our modem to reconnect.
Deep in my heart I was hoping DA would win, but deep in my soul I knew DC would so I prayed so hard for a draw that never came. It only shows there are more “sexy” (no pun intended) people around.
di ako bilib kay david archuleta, kasi pang high school musical yung dating nya. yung dad nya is alos a troublemaker, which i think affacted his previous performances.haha
