Am I Weird?

Jane of Here’s to Life, Marie of Vanidosa, and Cookie of ScroochChronicles tagged me to write 6 weird things about myself. What is weird? Weird according to Wikipedia means “odd, uncanny”, surreal humor, mental confusion, freak, surprise (emotion).

With this in mind, I am making mine differently—I will write 6 things people perceive to be weird about me. Weird to others, but not to me because I do live with this “weirdnesses” and am comfortable with them. Nevertheless, tell me, am I weird?

1. I do not own a watch. And an umbrella is a no-no for me. Why? Because I can tell time—no matter which part of the world or time zone I am in. It has always been a game with my kids and my friends who know about it. My precision—give or take 15 minutes, but generally, precise. Challenge me, ask me point blank what time it is, and i can tell you. As for the umbrella, I love the rain—I can brave any typhoon, even of I get wet, I’ll be fine.

2. I do not go to market and I do not cook. When I was a young bride, my husband would kid me by telling his friends that I was such a good cook, “de lata sa isang kamay, abre lata isa” (canned good in one hand and can opener in the other). He would also say that I was such a good cook that the dog would be so content eating what I cook. My mother does all the cooking and marketing. Oh yes, I went to a wet market about 5 years ago, and in between I forgot to get my change or get my purchases. One time I cooked fish sinigang—we ended up eating minced fish (fish was separated from the fishbone). So, if my mother goes away for a few days, we either order food or eat out. While others find cooking rice a routine, I have never cooked rice.

3. I have never drank a cup, nay, not even a drop, of coffee in my whole life. Water is fine by me. Though years ago, Coca Cola was my life, my staple. But I love Starbucks—for their sinfully delicious chocolate cakes, UCC—for their food and WiFi, Gloria Jeans—for their Truffle cake and WiFi. But never ever for their coffee!

4. My 6th sense is very strong. My close friends can vouch on this. Listen to these. One time my friends and I were strolling in Mega Mall, in the middle of our conversation, I brought up the name of one of our former Italian bosses who has retired years ago. At that very instant we saw him coming out of a restaurant. Apparently, he just arrived from Italy. Another one, I asked my seatmate in the office, “When was the last time you visited D?” She said she has not visited lately, I told her to visit her because it seemed like D would be leaving very soon. True enough, D passed away the next day. And this one is an overkill. When I reached home one evening, I just asked my mom, “What? L died?”. L was my 1st cousin’s husband living south of Manila. My mom was surprised, she asked, “What are you talking about?” I just said, “Let me call up T (my cousing) tomorrow, she has to take care of L”. Come morning, in the office, my brother called me up to break the bad news that L died the night before. I was speechless. I have tried my very best to shoo away these premonitions. While others consider this as a gift, don’t.

5. I count and count and count, especially steps, but I do not remember the final count. Next time I come back, I count again. At the Araneta Coliseum when I watch a concert or the UAAP games, I make my own estimate of the number of people in the coliseum.

6. I have a penchant for crossword puzzles, jumble and sudoku, be they from newspapers, magazines, or books. When I travel, I even carry with me issues that I have not answered, or bring books. I will never get bored while flying, as long as I have them. Anything crossword, jumble and sudoku,I will devour, any time! And I don’t use pencil—I use a sign pen. I want them words and numbers written bold and clear.

7. I’d rather share 7—it’s my favorite number. So as a bonus, I can do this. Can you?

:) I am tagging Annamanila, Noemi, MyepinOy, Rhodora, Belle, Aileen, Vicki, Kathy, and Chase (though I think for Chase, it should not be weird, but “normal” things about Chase).

    Hi sexy mom,

By the way, your number 1…what, you don’t have any watch….and you can say the time? Oh what a good sense of you…hehehe
Me, I can’t go out in the house without my watch….parang may kulang kung wla akong watch….better I have no ring or bag but watch…no….

You can’t cook…..siguro ano? I believe on you…my sister also, even though scramble eggs and fried Fish….ang itlog naging bato, ang fish naging soup…lol…

you’re 6th sense….nakatakot naman yon….but there is also advantage on this, right?...malaman mo ang future….pero sana yon magandang news lang sana….hindi yon ganito ano?....nakatakot din, hindi ba?

I am very serious reading your post….but at the last, I saw my name, oh..oh…ohla….I have still some TAGGED that I have not done…huuhhu

I just say to you, if have done this ha?....thanks for tagging….

SexyMom: now, vk, you have known a lot of weird things about your friend, will be waiting for your list. yes, the 6th sense is scary, i would have liked to know the nicer things instead, like the winning lotto number, perhaps?

  2. chase on June 11th, 2007 3:01 am

Wow very interesting facts you got there and thanks for tagging me. I will do it on my next post!

SexyMom: am excited Chase to see you list! thanks for being game.

  3. micamyx on June 11th, 2007 3:40 am

Wow. Can’t believe that Tita Dine doesn’t drink coffee nor cook food! hehe

but still you are sexy hehehe :) take care tita! :)

SexyMom: oh, Mica, believe Tita Dine!

  4. Belle on June 11th, 2007 5:06 am

i don’t carry a watch either but unlike you, i can’t tell the correct time. how do you tell? position of the sun in the sky? or you use shadow to tell time? i know my husband navigate by the position of the sun in the sky. what if it is a cloudy or rainy day?

you only drink water and you don’t take coffee? good for you, reason why you are so healthy. before, i usually took a cup a day but recently, i totally eliminated it in my diet. and i am not a pop drinker, either.

dine, since you don’t cook, do you get to do the dishes or clean the kitchen when the servant is not available? hehehe

i also count and count. last night, i went to watch the concert at the park, i counted the people by grouping them in tens in my head. i counted 500 people but not sure if it was accurate.

thanks for the tag. i have the answers posted already in my blog because i was originally tagged by chats and grey mom.

SexyMom: sometimes i compartmentalize time by 15 minutes (kinds difficult to describe) and the activities done within that period, with the last accurate time in mind as the base. oh, Belle, it’s difficult, it’s just like i know the time.

as to clearing dishes and cleaning the kitchen? gosh, am lucky-NO. if ever, we’ll say once in a blue moon

isn’t it nice to count and count and count? i find it therapeutic!

  5. carlotta on June 11th, 2007 6:04 am

wow you can tell time without a watch? astig! =)

SexyMom: yes, Carlotta, no matter what place or what time zone, i can tell the time, almost precisely. the chinese friends were so fascinated (i had a 6-month posting in beijing years ago), that they wanted to show me off to their other friends.

  6. kimmy on June 11th, 2007 6:20 am

mommy dine! pareho kayo ng labs ko, malakas ang sixth sense. pero yung sa kanya, nakakaramdam sya at nakakakita ng entities sa paligid. scary

SexyMom: Kimmy, same as your labs, i can see them, too, ask Annamanila!

  7. rhodora on June 11th, 2007 7:06 am

On # 7: Dine, you’re really weird! Hahaha! I almost broke my pinky in trying to copy you, but still I can’t!

Thanks for tagging me, will do it after the interview tag of annamanila. .. :)

SexyMom: now, let me see how weird you are also.

  8. niceheart on June 11th, 2007 8:04 am

I tried to copy the pinky thing, I can’t. :)

Very interesting list, sexymom. I’m also not a coffee drinker, but yes, I did drink coffee for a while a few years ago when I notice that I get sleepy at work after lunch. Pero napansin ko na sinisikmura ako. So I stopped it. Balik sa Milo. :)

Having the 6th sense is very interesting, but it seems that it can be a scary thing too.

SexyMom: i always enjoy showing off the pinky thingey, looks easy, but in the long run, difficult for many.

  9. lady cess on June 11th, 2007 8:51 am

ang galing! pwede kayo sa startrek! i cant cant can never ever do that!
so ang lakas pala ng 6th sense nyo. kaya nyo kaya i’ll give you some pictures of some people i know and tell me your vibration (heheh, joke lang po, ... pero baka nga kaya nyo :D )

SexyMom: no, please don’t. it’s scary.

  10. KK on June 11th, 2007 9:30 am

Wow, so many interesting weirdness ;) Sexymom. I don’t own a watch too but I can’t tell time as good as you do. You must have done so well in your math classes for loving to count.

Re: 6th sense, clairvoyance is kinda scary thing to have.

    7th, nope can’t do that.

SexyMom: about 6th sense, as much as possible, i block these from my mind, coz it’s really scary.

  11. Jane on June 11th, 2007 9:44 am

Dine, I looked at the time you twittered me re this post – 3AM??? Now…if that isn’t weird, hehehe :-)

#1 – I think you may have the recessed genes still in your DNA of our ancestors who navigated via the sun, moon and stars. As for the umbrella, can’t do without it as I am so totally vulnerable to rain. Konting basa lang, sipon na.

    #2 – we’re both weird then. I don’t either.

#3 – buti ka pa. I am supposed to be health-conscious but coffee runs in my blood!

#4 – if my girls are to be believed, our house has unseen inhabitants. C1 has seen some; C2 can sense them. Come to think of it, I have sensed them too. Yikes!

#5 – Maybe your having 7 kids got you into the habit. Yun bang, everytime you go somewhere or leave a place, you keep counting heads to make sure all kids are accounted for, hehe. Reminds me of the “Home Alone” series where Macaulay Culkin gets left behind when his family goes on vacation.

#6 – Hey, pareho tayo! But not sudoku. I go for crosswords and logic puzzles. Got a huge pile of unused ones pa at home. My mom is a crossword addict too.

#7 – Now THAT is neat! My yoga didn’t help cuz I just couldn’t do that! Just as my kids can roll their tongues and I can’t.

Thanks for playing. I enjoyed your post immensely!

SexyMom: your rationale for #1 is interesting; #4—in my original post, i placed: i see ghosts, spirits, etc., but i deleted it; #6 am not really fond of these logic puzzles; and #7—while more than half of my kids can “double W” their tongues, I can’t. thanks for the tag.

  12. Wil on June 11th, 2007 10:24 am

you have the sixth sense? Freaky! Maybe you can use it to make money a la John Edward. :D But is it possible that it’s not the sixth sense, but just a coincidence?

SexyMom: i guess it’s really 6th sense, though i would like to believe they’re just coincidence (feeling is so uncomfortable).

  13. dexie on June 11th, 2007 10:49 am

I LOVE soduku. Do you do cryptograms as well? Those are cool.

I tagged you..lol. Yup another one. Please visit: http://sheknowsbest.com :)

SexyMom: thanks, Dexie, someone ought to give me tips on them cryptograms, am having difficulty trying to figure out how to do them.

    and yet another tag, thanks!

  14. Linnor on June 11th, 2007 11:34 am

This list adds more interesting facts about you SexyMom! I enjoyed knowing a little bit more of you. To answer your question if you’re weird? Nope, you’re just gifted :D.

SexyMom: that’s so kind of you, Linnor. thanks

  15. cielo on June 11th, 2007 12:23 pm

hi mom dine on #7, my kids and my maid tried it, we almost broke our lil pinkie…yan tuloy niyabang din nang eldest ko sa mga cousin nya if they can do it.

#6 on my spare time & also in my quiet moment im with my sodoku (just love it and i just cant stop once i started)

SexyMom: omg! i should have placed a warning for #7 (LOL)!

  16. marie on June 11th, 2007 12:46 pm

    Hi sexy!
Thanks for the response and the infos.
1.Weird nga not owning a watch.I don’t bring umbrella too, iwan sa lang sa car, takbo sa shade pag init and silong pag ulan.
2.Parehong pareho tayo dito sa no. 2.Pagawa mo na sakin lahat-laba, plantsa, linis wag lang luto at madumi at mabahong (sorry, I’m just being honest) palengke.
3.I’m not a coffee addict too, sa breakfast lang.Tambay lang sa UCC for tea and sweets and salads.Si hubby ang no. 1 UCC patron and sumiyaki lover.
6.I love crosswords too lalo pag jumejebs, hehe.

SexyMom: that’s nice, at least for 3-1/2 items, i found an ally in you, Marie.

  17. Kongkong622 on June 11th, 2007 2:41 pm

Hi SexyMom!! Pwede na din..kinda weird slash spooky. O sige nga, what time na ngayon? :)

I have that too..3rd eye. Same, I mention a name and that person either pops up or calls, or even worse nababasa ko sa dyaryo. My husband thinks its spooky. Just happened the other day with a friend from way back. Met her at the grocery after 6 years and I was just talking about her with my mom.

That pinky trick is one for the books. Loved it. Tried it and almost broke my finger. Galing!! :)

Thanks for taking it on. Till the next tag :)

  18. Mitch on June 11th, 2007 3:24 pm

Pareho po tayo, di din ako marunong magsaing buti may rice cooker hehe!

  19. Francesca on June 11th, 2007 4:14 pm

hi sexy mom, weird nga yung walang watch. Ako pag iwan ko watch ko sa bahay, half of my life, inis na, kasi nga, work ko is patak oras, haha.

Oy, visit pala my blog. Its about Paris .

  20. Kyels on June 11th, 2007 4:47 pm

    Woot!

    Interesting facts there tita!

    [:

  21. annamanila on June 11th, 2007 5:48 pm

Really! You dont go to market, cook, drink coffee? I didnt notice you don’t have a watch. I don’t too but only because I dropped it the other day. We share the same dislike for carrying umbrellas. Hindi na bale mabasa LOL

I think I can do what you did with your fingers .. unless i am missing something.

Ay Dine … you’re really weird. Congrats. haha

Thanks for the tag, which makes it a double tag. Will do asap.

  22. tina on June 11th, 2007 6:58 pm

wow. now that’s weird. (my list wasn’t at all weird) hehe,.. but this one.. is kind of different.. although since you live with it.. it’s not weird for you.

i tried the last one it did not work for meeeee… hehe.

  23. Vince on June 11th, 2007 7:00 pm

mana ako sa 1 4 at 5. but complete opposite of 3. hahaha! i love coffee :) not the instant coffee though :P

  25. Alternati on June 11th, 2007 9:11 pm

    LOL. I totally share 1, 2, 5 and 6 with you!

hehehe… But I must say I survive on coffee. I really do! :P

The 6th sense is really weird. I would have fainted if that happened to me.

I can’t do the thing you did with your hands. :P

P.S. Belated Happy Birthday to Angelo! :)

  26. Girlie on June 11th, 2007 11:11 pm

#1, i’ve lots and lots of umbrella, but just like you i don’t like to use it, kesehoda magmukha akong basang sisiw sa ulan

#2 o nga weird na di ka marunong magluto

    #7 i tried doing it but i can’t

  27. Mari on June 12th, 2007 12:48 am

The 6th sense is kind of spooky and scary. It’s more like you have psychic power. This happens to me in my dreams. I’d dream I’d be in a wake and soon days or weeks after someone dies, and I’d be there in the same setting as in my dream. This had happened so many times it sometimes scare me.

  28. pining on June 12th, 2007 6:17 am

    Hi SexyMom :-)
you must be the only Pinoy I know who doesn’t drink coffee, and the hand thing is weird, huh!

  29. sassy mom on June 12th, 2007 12:31 pm

First off, telling the time without a watch? That’s superb! I guess, it’s connected with #4.

Not liking coffee?!? I used to be like that but now Im a coffee addict!

And, I tried #&—- hehe! Can’t do it! Weird huh?

  30. Dexter on June 12th, 2007 1:16 pm

Well 7 is weird for me..ha ha ha.. Coz VEry seldom I see people doing like this. :)

  31. tofubaby on June 12th, 2007 1:25 pm

    WOW! Really weird indeed.

I tried doing #7 either and I think I would break my fingerbones kung magpumilit ako.

I don’t cook much either. I leave the cooking to the experts.

Time telling without a watch? That’s awesome. I usually am good at estimating time but I think I would never be as precise as you.

For the sixth sense, I’m afraid I’m we’re used to this. How, its a bit complicated and I’m not sure if he want’s to share that side.

Thanks for sharing. Apparently, weird is in and normal is out. :D

  32. des on June 12th, 2007 2:09 pm

    hi tita!

wow! @#1, you can tell time without watch. ang galing po. i also hate bringing umbrellas (lalo na yung may tungkod) unless there’s an upcoming storm.

my lucky number is 7. i don’t know why. but my favorite number is 6..i still don’t know why. but sometimes, numerology tells the truth.

just got back to the blogosphere. Happy Independence Day!

  33. Manila Mom on June 12th, 2007 3:54 pm

Wow, you could be one of those evolved people they show on Heroes :)

I would love to be able to tell time but no, not the premonitions or the sensing of spirits. I’m such a scaredy-cat.

Aha! Good to know there are moms like me who don’t go to market or cook. I always say I do know how to cook – and do other things in the household – but only if there’s no other choice. If we can be more productive doing something else and delegate the chores, why not, di ba? :)

Good for you for not taking coffee. I’m hopeless – I’m hooked on both coffee and Coke. ayayay.

And, yes,I was able to do the thing with my fingers. But with much difficulty.

Great list, Sexy Mom! Good to know more about you this way.

  34. bugsybee on June 12th, 2007 5:26 pm

About no. 7 … I tried it and found out that I can do it with my right hand but not with my left hand. :)

  35. aMgiNe on June 12th, 2007 8:17 pm

as for the 7th item, dang its really hard. hehe :D

  36. Toe on June 12th, 2007 8:42 pm

I’m also a Sudoku and crossword puzzle addict and believe it or not, I could do no. 7. :)

  37. Toni on June 12th, 2007 10:52 pm

I think your number 1 and number 4 are related, since you have the sixth sense, you can tell time without having a watch :) isn’t that practical? my mom has that sixth sense too and some family members and friends are afraid of her sometimes whenever she gets those vibes.. quite scary actually. Good for you that you don’t drink coffee, I’m a coffee addict, if a day comes that I don’t drink it, I have super headaches!! – withdrawal symptons. So please don’t get into it :)

  38. jho on June 13th, 2007 12:38 pm

scary yung 6th sense. Gift din yan pero use it with caution. Use it positively.

  39. amymd on June 13th, 2007 2:58 pm

telling time with no watch is really something, dine. my husband sometimes do it but he can’t be that precise. regarding #6 i think you can read more about it from JTL books available in most booktores.

  40. kathy on June 13th, 2007 8:18 pm

That 6th sense is spooky! I could never do that thing you do with your pinky…that’s pretty unique, eh?

I see you tagged me with this meme – will do it as soon as I could think of what to put in the list. :)

  41. Chateau on June 15th, 2007 11:42 pm

    Hi sexy mom!
I always thought no. 7 was a normal ability because i can do it. Now I know there are only a few of us with such a gift haha..
Now your 6th sense is a bit spooky.. My FIL has that too.
My husband has never drank coffee in his life haha. Like you, water suits him fine. He doesn’t drink soda either.
Dinner was great. Hope to see you soon again :)

  44. bw on June 20th, 2007 10:41 am

Look now – No. 3 is really weird :) Amazing that you had maintained your aversion to coffee for so long hehe :)

    LOL on No 2 :)

  45. Chriskarol on May 18th, 2008 2:26 am

    Heehee…i don’t like coffee too…eww, gross! :) just kidding.

Pretty cool to know time, ako i won’t know what time it is. all i can do without clocks is look out the window and if the sun is there i announce ‘it’s daytime right now.’ ahahaha!
