Sometime in September last year, I was surprised to receive a comment in this blog from a former classmate in college–my barkada at that. She said she was searching the Internet using “UST Med Tech Class 78″ and she found me. Mind you, even I could not find a single soul when I used those keywords when I made a google search. Until now, the wonders of the Internet still continue to amaze me.
We have been in contact since then and became friends in Facebook, sharing updates, reliving the good old days–yes the good ole days of fun, frolic and folly.
And the rest is history–now there are 8 of us friends in Facebook and we hope to gather as much of our batchmates as we can.

Thong Luna (who incidentally is now Tom) has been suggesting a grand reunion. Most of us missed the one in 2003 at Club Filipino. Oh well, we did not know about it then, and Facebook has not yet born at that time.
UST’s 400th anniversary is on 28 January 2011–we should have enough time to organize Thong’s dream of a grand reunion.
What to do:
(1) email me at bracoma@gmail.com
(2) be friends at Facebook
(3) contact classmates that you know and suggest that they be in our loop
(4) form committees–the the most important committee should be, secretariat committee that will find and coordinate with all batchmates, then the finance committee
and program committee
(5) organize chapters, Philippine chapter, USA chapter, Canada chapter, Europe chapter, Middle East chapter or what-have-you-chapter considering that Filipinos are everywhere and assign coordinators per chapter
(6) set up an egroup
(7) make a class directory, and update it regularly
(8) send suggestions
(9) send pictures of our college days which we can post in a blog
(10) good luck to us and let’s keep our fingers crossed

It is quite difficult for the ladies because we change our family names when we get married–but do not underestimate the power of the Internet.

After 32 years, a mini group of medtech batch’78 had a reunion. For a very short time notice, a mini group reunion was held at Mayen Gabriel Chua’s residence at 13 S. Benito St., BF Homes, Q.C on March 19, 2110. It was planned by Nila Santiago Songco, Maricel Castro-Akashi, of course with cooperation of Mayen. Attendees were : 2 from section C, 2 from D, 2 or 3 from F and the rest are from section G. maricel castro-akashi , katsumi akashi , jolina Catalina “jocah” pangan panlilio , rem concepcion ,melanie sadio krueger ,malou garcia, ernesto “nesto” manasan , mabel fajota-esteban , emelito ”lito” roxas , makairog “ogie” aznar (all from section G) nila Santiago-songco , ellen sapuriada-aranas, joseph “jojo” aricheta, chona robillos chua, teresita ”thess” clemente obrero, elaine intia caadan, gaudencio “boy” villanueva, jomar canlas tiu, a total of 19 px. . i’m so thrilled looking at those photos! i must admit i had to use a magnifying lens to enable me to get a clearer and larger view of the faces. Funny how old we have become and yet we could still connect and reconnect! everyone seems to be all over the place, from one point of the globe to the other and yet we manage to reconnect and communicate. I always knew someone out there is virtually brimming over with hundreds of practical techniques for getting this wonderful idea . We can start feeling sentimental now…start taking time to think of that special person in our lives then , the special “meeting places , the special trips , etc…lots of folks bring back those memories now . Wow! After looking through the pictures and letters, everything seems to be yesterday. I was very amused and happy to hear from most of our dear old friends. I missed the 2003 reunion. I was there in my hometown in San Juan for my Dad’s funeral. Four years later, my mom passed away. We can’t bring her body home due to time and money and everybody were here anyway. I didn’t like the cemetery back home anyway. They stole my Dad”s flowers the very next day and I saw one lady selling the white orchids on the sidewalk. I told my sisters and brothers about the orchids and that lady was gone. She knows she’s guilty.
Anyway, I’m very,very fine now. I worked for 31 years now at Kaiser Permanente as a Medical Technologist. I’m married with 3 kids, Sam is 24 now working on his Phd degree at Ohio State University, Jimmy is 20 working part time at our church and going to college,too. And last is Melanie. She’s 17, a junior in high school . She’ s also in Track and field now for spring sport. She does pole vaulting and hurdles. She ‘s also in Singing Angels. She was in San Francisco last year, in China 2 years ago during the pre-Olympic games and this year she’ll go to spectacular seven countries in Europe. That’s all for now and hopefully to hear from everyone soon. Please say Hi to everyone. I miss you all.

danny yu send a message in my fb account, about ust med tech batch 78. after all those years, i never expect to be in touch again with my college classmates and friends. thank you susan san luis for you good memory. god bless you. nila the wife of danny was my co-employee in unilab now quest ten years ago in tarzana california. she was in hematology department and i was in chemistry department. after all those years working in the lab. i finally decided to venture to other jobs. i even became a chimney sweeper. what the heck is that ? out of curiosity, when i saw an ad about making good money being a chimney sweeper in los angeles i applied for that job. the american owner out of curiosity also seeing an asian with an accent hired me. another white guy started training me and if you are afraid of heights and enclosed area you will not last a day. the company was busy doing inspection of chimneys after an eathquake hit los angeles. to make the story short after two months of being like santa claus and spider man i took the examination to be a certified chimney sweep. four of us in the company took the exam and two only pass the exam and i am one of them. the good thing nobody in the company is certified cause they can’t pass the examination. the one who trained me and gave me a hard time is now under me cause i am certified by the chimney institute of america. after two years and almost fell down from a two story mansion in beverly hills inspecting a tall chimney made of bricks i quit before i die. my story is becoming too long. well this is the side effect of not hearing any news from everybody we have a lot of story to tell. see yah! merry christmas to all the ust med tech batch 78 and happy new year…

kumusta na kayong lahat diyan? stumbled on this site accidentally when i saw a picture of lisa lacorte luna on a facebook my hubby was browsing, got interested and just thought i drop a line or two. i read on and on and remember efren tadiaman, i figure its really nice to know that the ’78 batch is doing all of this. i reside in san diego and will not be able to attend this coming reunion, but i will make plans to be there next time or anywhere near hear. by the way i sat between norelyn dorado and alma medina ysla, all of us are still working as mt’s here, now cls as they call it (clinical lab scientist). i don’t remember much about everbody- senior moments come and go, but i’m definitely ’78-just october grad. happy to read all the antiques everyone share.

hi, its me again, pardon me, i mean when anyone will plan to reunite somewhere near here, oopps. anyways i’m working for quest diagnostics for ohhh about good 19 years now, guess could not get enough of the place. not much i can do but stay in our profession, its a good one. but i’ve done odd jobs too like anybody else, from waitressing, to being a hotel maid to a seamstress/tailor to the best one–(drumroll) blackjack dealer. yup, that was in harrah’s and harveys in lake tahoe(’81-83) that was a fun easy job, all u have to remember was count to 21(ha,ha). i think i’m starting to bore everybody with my life… til next time.
