Happy Birthday, Best Friend BING

Today is the birthday of Bing, my best friend of 14 years. I am 6 years older than she is, but age has not come in the way of our friendship. We used to work in the same office and have been having lunch together for 14 years, everyday, except when one of us has to go for official travel abroad. From Monday through Friday, with a few other friends, or sometimes just the two of us, we would have lunch either at the Mega Mall, Robinson’s or the Podium. McDonald’s, Jollibee, Pizza Hut, KFC, Max’s, Sbarro, etc., on regular days, and at the finer places like Italianni’s, Dad’s, Pots & Noodles, Metro, etc. on special occassions. Everyday, after lunch without fail, we would go to Mr. Donut, to continue our chat. Name any restaurant in the 5th largest mall in the world, and for sure, we have been there. The picture here was taken a few years ago, when we were both almost fat.
We understand each other so well, that even if we do not say what we feel or what is bothering us, the other one would know. As friends, neither of us would hesitate to say things, even if they hurt, if they will be good for the other. Yes, physically we have been apart for the last 5 months since I went on early retirement, except for ocassional lunches or a concert, but this does not really bother us at all. I cannot say we are like sisters, because I have never known how it is to have one.
Sometimes we get fat together, or get slim together, sometimes one is fat, the other is slim. One time when I came from a 2-week trip from Pakistan, and I was missing McDonald’s, we had cheeseburgers 1-1/2 weeks straight! Our friends say that if someone opens up our tummies, the contents would be purely junk food—and no less. It’s simply crazy!
Being best friends does not stop us from having different interests. She dances, I don’t. I drink, she doesn’t. She likes to wear different fashion jewelry everyday, I wear my one and only diamond earrings everyday. She loves watches, I have none. She drinks coffee, I don’t. We laugh a lot, talk a lot, window shop a lot, dream a lot.
On this day, her birthday, I have a special prayer for her. She knows what it is—it has something to do with her future. I just want her and her 2 kids, Juris and Mikko to be very happy. I love you, Bing!
We had lunch today at Max’s in Mega Mall with a few other friends to celebrate her birthday. Max’s and all the other places in Mega Mall, have been witnesseses to this long friendship. See, I continue to patronize Max’s, despite the earlier sad experience.
