Every now and then, I would crave for a local delicacy called “tamales”. I am lucky because I can always find one in a place near my home.
From Wikipedia:
Ang tamales ay isang pagkaing Pilipino na halaw sa impluwensiya ng mga Mehikano. Karaniwang kinasasangkapan ang pagluluto nito ang pulbos o harinang bigas, itlog, at kulay-tsokolateng asukal. Madikit ang kaning-bigas na ito na hinaluan ng maraming panimpla at sinahugan din ng karne ng baboy, manok at nilagang itlog. Karaniwan itong pinauusukan para maluto habang nakabalot sa mga dahon ng saging.
Translation (mine): Tamales is a Filipino food influenced by Mexicans. It normally comprises powdered sticky rice, eggs, and chocolate-colored sugar. The sticky rice is mixed with a lot of other ingredients like shredded chicken, pork and boiled eggs. The mixture is wrapped in banana leaves and steamed to cook.

In Waraynon , we call it ‘tamalos’. One of my favorite foods, and one that I have almost forgotten about if not for this blog entry. Goodness knows when the last time was that I enjoyed this food with my rice. Now , you made me miss it, huhuhu.

and the only pinoy store in my area closed a few years ako kaya when i see pics like this (gaya ngayon) ina-atake ako nang wanting to have it right now as in now na talaga kaso the nearest pinoy store is about 34 miles at mag-lalakbay pa ang lola to new jersey! it’s really my favorite, kaya when i was home two weeks ago, i heard nag run out nang tamales sa manila hehehe

Kumzta Kabayans? Mehikano Ako living sa UAE, meron sobra pinoys dito, I have several kaibigan pinoy, talaga. Pero, most of them do not know this Filipino tamalos, botu botu or Tamales.
Tamales is a indigenous food from mexico and have been made for several centuries… Mexico and Filipins share one of the deepest links I have ever seen, we can call each other brothers culturally and historically, even closer for mexico than another latin american contries.
I cooked mexican Tamales another days and shared it with my pinoy friends…
