Season 71’s Schedules, Statistics, Updates and Highlights are found here.
After 9 months since the close of Season 70, the day much awaited for has come—the first ADMU and DLSU game! As early as 2 pm, traffic was already heavy by the vicinity of the Araneta Center and Gateway. Parking was difficult, the nearest parking slots available were by the Marikina Shoe Expo. The Big Dome was full, but not packed. After the UP vs NU game, the Big Dome was again a sea of green on one side and a sea of blue on the other side.
IT WAS A DAY OF SURPRISES!
A Special Guest
Immediately after Game 1 (UP vs NU), guess who came to grace the occasion? None other than MANNY PACQUIAO . He came to accept UAAP’s Award for Sports Excellence, and was cheered by the crowd to no end. He was cited as a shining inspiration for today’s youth. He also gamely accepted host UP’s jersey and cap, wore them, and gave his usual warm thank you, and faced the greens and the blues to say, “Good luck sa inyo at sa inyo.”
On the UP/NU game,
(1) UP won against NU by 14 points, athough in Q1, NU was leading by 11 points.
(2) It was obvious on both ADMU and DLSU sides who have filled most of the seats by the game’s Q3 that the blues and the greens were routing for the last season’s underdogs who didn’t win any of the 14 rounds in the prelims.
Memory Lane: Was it not NU’s win against ADMU last season which caused a best of 4 play off, instead of ADMU immediately being the team to beat, with a play off for the best of 3?
On the ADMU/DLSU game,
(1) Right at the very start of the game, the crowd was surprised to find ADMU given 2 free shots—a technical to DLSU players who, for the seeming delay to start the games. were coaxing the officials to start the game ASAP.
(2) ADMU’s first 2 points were Tiu’s free throws, while DLSU’s first shot was a 3-pointer.
(3) ADMU was given a warning in Q2 for excessive complaining.
(4) ADMU Coach Norman Black was given a technical in Q4 for heated verbal exchange with somebody in the crowd.
(5) Up until 3 mins and 17 seconds to go in Q4, ADMU and DLSU were still tied. Before that DLSU was leading by 4 points. Really, it was anybody’s ballgame.

On the Cheerleaders
(1) The male cheerleaders of DLSU formed an arrow attacking the letter A formation of the girls. No AL SALLE this time.
(2) The cheerleaders of ADMU showed a remarkable change in their choreography and stunts, high energy and more difficult this time and what looked like easy 3-tiered climbs, which made previous years’ choreography and stunts pale in comparison.
CONGRATULATIONS UP Maroons!
CONGRATULATIONS Ateneo Blue Eagles! True to the words of the spirited crowd of Ateneans, “We are the SIXTH MAN.”

“No AL SALLE this time.”
At 17 years old, such comments would be “normal”. But at 70+?
70? She can’t be a day older than 40, are you kidding me?
I think Ateneo has a very good chance of clinching the title this year. Buenafe shows great potential for a rookie.
