The Debutante and the Escort–Happy Birthday to Steph and Vince!

September 27th, 2007 by Sexy Mom · Viewed 6224 times · 28 Comments

2 birthdays in a row—that of Steph on 22 August and Vince today, 27 September. They are both 18 years old now. Who is Steph, you might ask? Steph is, let’s get straight to the point—Vince’s girlfriend of 4 years. Their friendship started when Vince was in Grade 7, and Steph in 1st year high school.

Oh yes, young love—it’s kinda early for them, most would say. But my husband and I, and Steph’s parents for that matter, did not intervene. For us, it was a matter of parental guidance. We accepted Steph as a member of our family in the same way that Steph’s parents accepted Vince. Steph’s siblings took in Vince as their own, while to my 6 other kids, Steph is a very good friend (to Pauline) and sister to the others. On family occassions, they would both be there. We watch UAAP games at the Araneta together.

Vince and Steph share the same passion for theater, music, and dance. They also share the same passion for perfection especially in their studies—they both reap honors.

They have common friends. On the other hand, they have their different sets of friends whom they go out with, not necessarily going out together. That’s the beauty of it—they do not confine themselves in each other’s company. They grow together, and apart.

Steph is now in 1st year college at the Ateneo, while Vince has just completed his UPCAT and ACET. Vince capped his 18th birthday with the Ateneo win over DLSU. Good friends gifted him and Steph with tickets for today’s games. Steph capped her birthday with a coming out masquerade ball on 18 August at the EDSA Shangrila Hotel, where about 200 friends and relatives joined the joyous occassion.

Two VIP tables were reserved, one for Steph’s family, the other for my family—a touching gesture. Food was great, the quartet did a great job—one would easily fall in love with their music. Steph’s elder sister, Ethel (and her boyfriend Aries) and elder brother Jasper (and his girlfriend Marian) made all the arrangements, with the help of a coordinator.

Vince was Steph’s escort, BA, Angela and Pauline were in the cotillion, Angela in the 18 songs, BA in the 18 roses, while I was in the 18 treasures. The 18 treasures were presented side by side with the 18 songs. One has to open his or her gift/treasure and explain why the gift/treasure was chosen for the debutante. My family chose to gift Steph with two overnight stays at the EDSA Shangrila Hotel, one room for the guys and another room for the ladies who wanted to stay over at the Shang to continue with the celebration and get together. Steph and family had booked for their own 2 suites, while my family also stayed overnight the next day for a short respite.

awww, what young sweethearts they are!

blessed Steph and Vince for they have the best and supportive parents in both you and hubby. I’d agree when you said both families makes sure not to intervene with the relationship and that parental guidance is all that matters. so the saying that goes “the more hinihigpitan, lalong sumusuway” has never been more true. we have to trust our children enough for them to certainly do what is right. :)

Wow that’s so sweet! It’s great that Steph’s family think the same way yours do.

Young love is sweet…and it’s great that as a parent, you don’t dictate whom your kids dated. I think it makes it quite healthy and safe.

They do make for a beautiful couple.

When I was still a teenager, that’s exactly how I wanted my mom to treat my “relationships.” But she found it hard to do.

Now that I’m a mom myself to a lovely daughter, I understand why. My hubby and I joke that she’s not allowed to have a bf until she’s 30. Reading this entry assured me that guidance is indeed better than intervention. Way to go Sexy Mom!

    :)

Hi Dine! It was fun looking at the photos. So who said young love was forbidden? You’ve shown that it doesn’t have to be, with proper guidance from parents. I wish i’d be as cool as you when my girls’ times come. :D
Belated happy birthday to Vince, and Steph.
