Summer Fun: Do the Groove, Take Review and Summer Classes, or Just Stay Home

It’s now really summer—it’s hot! it sizzles. And the children cannot stay put at home. Just like in the summers past, when the kids went for workshops—from painting lessons, to dance, theater, violin, gymnastics, voice (or is it boys for the girls? lol), etc., this year they have their summer almost planned up.
Joining workshops and activities not only gives kids added skills, they are also opportunities for them to be with their friends in a much relaxed mood, a break from the pressues of school.
But the activities are kinda different this year.
Angela will have to make do with her tutorials for ACET and UPCAT. She and her cousin Kristine will go to EXPERT GUIDES TUTORIAL SERVICES, INC.This is the same tutorial center where 2 elder brothers went for their review after they finished high school. Both passed the ACET and UPCAT, both had the dilemma—UP or Ateneo? BA went to UP, Vincent will decide next week after his Boracay Holiday with Steph’s family.
Expert Guides is located in Katipunan Ave., across the Ateneo. Fees are cheaper than the well-known review centers, but according to BA and Vince, they’re OK. Recommended. By the way, since my family has been a good client they gave P800 discount each for Angela and Kristine. It was Vince who negotiaed for the discount. They normally give a discount of P500 each student for a group of 10 enrolling.
Pauline will go to GROOVE CENTRAL STUDIO, dance studio along V Luna Road in Quezon City. The staff, mostly from the different dance groups in UP, call their studio the hottest and the hippiest in town. And I agree to that. They are very new, not event 5 years (if I heard it right), but when I watched their performances last year, I was so impressed—with their street dancing, break dancing, soul groove, street jazz, etc. More impessed than the dance performances in TRUMPETS where the kids had their workshops for several summers. Vince and his Indak Group at the Ateneo went to Groove Central last year, and they have improved their dance skills a lot.
Of course, TRUMPETS is very good when it comes to theater—the kids also had theater classes there when they were still at the Shangrila Mall, even until they moved to Podium.
For gymnastics, Pauline goes to Club Gymnastica, in Bo Kapitolyo, Pasig. According to her, it’s a good one. She and her co-PEP members go there every now and then for their training.
BA will take summer units for his Applied Physics course. Since it will be only a few units anyway, he will have his time exploring the gardens of UP and being with his friends.
As for Monica who will have her last year in law school this coming school year, it will be pure relaxation, go the gym, and catch up on her readings and sleep.
Alan Jr has not decided yet—he is busy with the computer, PS2, PSP and cartons. He wants to buy a replacement for the Guitar Hero, which finally gave up, perhaps because of over use.
I don’t like the summer heat, it takes away my energy, I melt. I prefer the cool and wet rainy days—and I am counting the days. In the meantine I thank God there is air conditioning.

And no, 5 units is not a “few” units. T_T I’ll be having 7-9am, and 9am-1pm classes everyday.

Anyway, I think attending workshops to fill up summer holidays is very productive. At least the kids won’t bum the holidays away. Hehe!
