Summer Break

This is the first summer break (after 27 years) that I will be spending full time with the kids—the question is, will they spend summer break full time with me?
Even before summer break, they have been making their own plans. Look at this:
- Monica, incoming senior law student, will go for on-the job training
- 19 yo BA will take up summer classes in UP
- 17 yo Vince will go to TRUMPETS for musical theater
- 14 yo Pau will either go to TRUMPETS for street dancing workshop or gymnastics/pep squad summer training
- 10 yo Alan Jr will continue his violins lessons
That leaves me with 16 yo Angela (Chato) and eldest son, J Angelo and family who live 5 houses down the corner.
Chato has not made any plans—she suggests that we play badminton (not in the living room this time, but in the badminton court a few blocks away) and enrol at the Moro Lorenzo gym in Ateneo. Last summer, she had to stay home because she was sick—she had toxic goiter. Oh, yes, she has to take time to rehearse for her recital at the Center for Pop Music.
So, there, this summer vacation I will continue to be Communication and Logistics Coordinator, in simple language, one who schedules the driver’s routing, trouble shooting when schedules overlap, sending things that were forgotten, etc., and most of all be the ever efficient Finance Officer—to pay for all their expenses. With all these tasks, who says I have retired from work? Motherhood is a full time job!

Anyway, we will be spending evenings with each other. Summer break has always been an opportunity for UBE—ultimate bonding experience. This includes all night jamming, with BA and Pau with their electric guitars or the piano, others singing, at times network gaming (all computers in the house are networked, and I don’t mind, they are not addicted anyway), PS games, guitar hero, watching movies, TV, even solving sudoku puzzles and crossword puzzles. And their blogging, and their friendsters, multiply, etc. It’s amazing how kids never run out of things to do.

By the way, J Angelo, his wife, and their 2 lovely daughters, Cate (2 yo) and Pia (4 yo), would every now and then come to the house—it has always been a joy for the family to be with them. Refreshing to have babies in our home.

Saturday formally began the family’s summer break. We all trooped to the UP Theater where Pau and clubmates in the Miriam College Pep Squad had their gymastics/pep squad concert. It was a full 2 hours of high energy dancing, cart wheels, head stands, front/back flips, front/back walks, a product of many months of training. We then went to Kenny Roger’s in Katipunan.

Sunday, after church, we went to Little Quiapo in Mabilis St., QC. I do not know if people still remember Little Quiapo in Matalino St.(now stands a huge spanky new swanky KFC building). It used to be a big restaurant serving Filipino fare, somewhere in the ranks of Max’s and Aristrocrat. What remains now is a tiny restaurant in Quezon City—they still serve the best halo-halo and pancit canton and many other Filipino foods. We always enjoy our Little Quiapo visits. It is Holy Week now, family will take time out for reflection, some peace and quiet, highlighted by Easter Sunday—another reason for celebration.
This is how it is in a big family. This is teh Joy in Being a Mother!

The irony of it all. You’re retired now but still busy with family life, while my baby sister may have to start working for a living next week after 20 years of full time housewife raising 2 boys and a girl.
They just moved to the U.S. and the two younger ones in Public School High and the other one will resume his college next school year, maybe for different courses and back to 1st year. He had already a year and a half of college at UST Business, but said he wants to switch to Pharmacy.
My sis got hold of Arnold’s (governor) grants and took asst. nursing training to try to get back in the work force. Nine months after she may be working soon.
sexy mom: your sister is very lucky to be able to move to US. this is a big change for her…yes, we need change, once in a while. for her—the change is a BIG break. good luck to her…anyway, you are there to guide them!
I can really see the joy in your of being a mother for your kids. Damn, I wish my mommy was staying here with me …
(:
sexy mom: but she comes for a visit every now and then? anyway, tita’s here for you!
Superwoman can never resign or retire, can she. She can also take short breaks (to blog—hahaha). All best Dine.
sexy mom: and that is one of the many things we have in common, dear Anna!
sure they never run out of things to do…they are experts in multi tasking too…ah kids! it’s as if they never get tired…i expected Ish to stay home, but no, she enrolled in guitar lessons, she wants to enrol in street dancing…etc
sexy mom: because they are still young, and they are full of energy. like Ish, they would like to do so many things…and of course, this is the stage when they like doing things with friends.
wow..hectic Sexy Mom but surely it’s a fulfilling job. Actually like what they say..its not a job if you love doing it
sexy mom: yes verns, sexy momhood is a fulltime job, and u am loving every moment of it!
i thought my hands will be full this summer because i will have my 2 girls for part of the summer break.

sexy mom: thanks! hot summer is here…and before we know it, they are back to school…might as well seize the summer days and have fun!
I think you’re a terrific mom to be able to bring up such wonderful children. It’s nice that many of them are musically inclined and active in extra curricular activities. Hope you’ll have a fantastic summer together. I’m sure that even though some of the kids are busy with summer activities, everyone will manage to find common time for the family. Thanks for sharing your happy photos.
sexy mom: terrific—maybe, and it has taken me 26 long years…am still improving by the day. summer nights are riot nights in this one large family!

Heeey, Little Quiapo! Me and my former bosses would sometimes have meetings there when our offices were then based in Malakas St.
I really wonder what it’s like to have a big family. Must be really fun!
sexy mom: yes, Alex, it’s FUN! everyday’s a riot, esp when J Angelo and family come for a visit.

I remember my childhood. During summer, all of us seven siblings would always find something to do – chess, volleyball, basketball, checkers.. Never a dull moment!
It’s truly fun having a big family!
sexy mom: yes, never a dull moment. interesting, you come from a family of 7, too!
You are very good in time management that is why you are blessed with 7 beautiful children. Hope you have enough time for yourself and your supporting hubby. I always enjoy reading all your articles. More power and energy to U!
sexy mom: thanks Talits. i missed your 2nd visit, but the first one was fun, food was so good, more than that, our friends were there. Monica says hello to Tania!
