STRESSED out? Take DESSERTS!

Lately, things have become out of control, deadlines have almost not been met, there simply were too many things happening and not happening at the same time, and it was not anymore funny. Before I knew it, I was in a situation called STRESSED out. I am not a person who would budge, as stress for me in my former work just an ordinary thing. It used to be that I worked stress, talked stress, ate stress, slept stress (if there indeed words or phrses to that effect)—stress was so ordinary that it has not affected me at all anymore. I have perfected the art of living a stressful life.

Until after retirement, when life was oh so quiet, easy, and slow…soon I realized that retirement can be more meaningful than just staying home, going to the mall, surfing the net, watching movies, meeting friends and all—though for a while it was an ideal situation. I had to earn my keep, too, and augment the family income and pension money, with 6 kids still in school. I started blogging, writing, accepting one project after another, meeting people, building clients and new friends, and being involved in an advocacy. These have all been interesting and fulfilling.

Without going into further details, I again fell into the trap—I thought I was STRESSED out. Here are the 3 major syptoms that would say that I was indeed STRESSED out. I was lethargic—I would SLEEP and SLEEP and SLEEP. Yes, for me, sleep is my body’s reaction to this this situation, it’s like STRESS would sap the energy out of my system. I would go to the parlor for hair works (till my hair is just a few inches long or shall i say short?), nail treats, and a massage, time permitting. Last, but not least, CHOCOLATES, CHOCOLATES and CHOCOLATES (anything, even Chocnut or Hany would do, or even eating Milo in its original form—no water, direct from can to the spoon).

after 15 minutes! When STRESSED out, take DESSERTS! Look at the word again—it’s not a coincidence that they are related. Read STRESSED backwards, and what do you get? DESSERTS.

Oh, yes, they are symptoms, but for me, they are also the INITIAL STEPs toward DESTRESSING.

The writer that I am (maybe even if I were not—just the practical person that I am also), I can have a play with words. I call these circumstances—CHALLENGES. Oh yes, challenges are exciting. Challenge them challenges, get over them challenges, and win over them challenges. This is the positive way to treat the stresses.

My secret? I have great trust and faith in the Lord above—I know that He will show me the light and make way for me, sometimes I do not even need to ask HIM. Everyday is a miracle in the making. I know, as it has always been this way for me and my large brood the past many years or so (we pray together each night).

(PICTURES ABOVE: 1st picture: I brought home close to a thousand peso worth of chocolates last Saturday. 2nd picture, in 15 minutes—they were gone, only wrappers! To the kids who were asleep, sorry! Anyway, they can buy chocolates anytime from the Mini Stop next door.)

When I’m stressed my system tends to shut down and go to sleep as well. Haha! Chocolates; only sometimes b/c I’m not exactly a sweet tooth.

Tita, where can I find Chocnut? Any malls will have it?

    (:

Chocolates, my sure way to perk up a stressed person. I love these too :) Sometimes I don’t bring everything out for the kids to save some for me :)

You finished a thousand pesos worth of chocs in one sitting? omg—what are you trying to do? Beat me at my game? hahaha

    Fave ko din ang meiji.

You’re a workaholic … so stress is your best friend. I think you will be stressed if you don’t have stress. :)

Desserts may do the trick for some people. It does for me. But I am concerned about it’s after-effects. Stress isn’t healthy as it is and desserts aren’t any better.

Perhaps exercise would be a better way to destress? Endorphins make you happy XD

    Peace.
