Me (at home): Pau, did you know that I was in hospital?
Pau: Yes, Mom.
Me: How come you didn’t even visit me?
Pau: You knew I would go to Subic, and you agreed. And I had my review class and PEP training, and soccer games, and went to a friend’s house to…blah blah blah…Anyway, when you go back to hospital, I will take care of you! PROMISE!
She was CLUELESS! I would not want to go back to hospital. not ever!

Conversation No. 3
Next day, her birthday, I was still in hospital. I called her up at midnight—she slept over in a friend’s house, as her other siblings were with me.
Me: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PAU! I love you, babe! Is it okay I am not with you?
Pau: Thanks, Mom. I love you po! It’s ok, you will be home in the morning isn’t it?
And we talked—senseless talk, I forgot what it was all about, as I was already very sleepy.
Vince bought a cake and fetched Pau from her soccer game. Vince and I accompanied her to church. Then we had to wait for everyone to get home for Pau to blow her cake. She was not able to blow her cake, and make her wish, as everyone was busy dressing up for dinner in Trinoma to celebrate her birthday.
When everyone was in the car, ready to go, I asked, “Where’s Pau?” We almost forgot—she was still in the house—ASLEEP!
She was CLUELESS!

We all had a good dinner at A Veneto Pizzeria at Trinoma, brought out her cake, but could not find a match or a lighter to light her birthday candle. We ate half the cake for dessert. Pau was is in a hurry to catch a Nike store to buy her soccer cleats/spikes. ‘Twas a few minutes before 9pm, and by the time she and her siblings reached the shoe store, it was already closed. She was disappointed. She must have gone to the store earlier. She had to return the next day.
She was CLUELESS!

Two days after birthday, she called up the house and asked to please leave a piece of her birthday cake. She wanted to blow her candle and make a wish.
Was she CLUELESS? She still found pleasure and excitement blowing a candle on a tattered piece of cake 2 days after her birthday!
That is PAU! Now sweet 16. She may be clueless, but she is SMART! She knows what she is doing, is independent, and sweet. She is into so many things (except review classes for the UPCAT and ACET—joke, joke, joke.) She comes to review class at 9am even if classes start at 8am. She enjoys dancing, PEP squad, playing the piano and the guitar, singing, and lately, soccer. She has a cheerful disposition—she would just laugh…and laugh…and laugh, especially when she is with friends. They are the only ones who can understand what they are laughing and talking about. Sometimes, we both would just stare at each other…and laugh! What’s more she keeps me and her siblings company in the evening playing my favorite piano pieces.
Pau’s birthday was last Tuesday, 26 May, but I am writing this blog post only now.
I was not CLUELESS Pau! This birthday post is a bit latish—our blogs have been down for a few days (and you knew that).
HAPPY BIRTHDAY from all of us who care for you!
