This morning, a program was held at the Gymnasium of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa, Manila to celebrate the National Women’s Day. About 2,000 students and representatives from CHED, DepEd, DOH, GSP, NCCA, and NYCA came to grace the occasion. The program was orgnized by the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW). This year’s theme is: CEDAW ng Bayan: Yaman ng Kababaihan. CEDAW means Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

This year NCRFW wll focus on its nationwide campaign in promoting the use of gender and development (GAD) budget in the government to finance gender equality and women’s empowerment programs at the national and local levels. By the way, the 52nd Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is Financing for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women.

Noemi and I, in partnership with WikiPilipinas, had the opportunity to take part of the program, through the launch of Encylopedia of Philippine Women, the Philippine Women’s Studies Microsite and the extension of the deadline for the Wikipilipinas Filipina Writing Contest to 15 March. We shared how FilipinaImages.com continue to contribute to a meaningful change in the Internet through our campaign, Reshaping the Filipina Image Online. We encouraged the audience to be empowered through the use of technology.

Thank you Noemi, for the above pictures.

By the way, here ia a picture of shirt that will be given away during the awarding of winners of the Writing Contest.

Venue and date will be announced.
