Christmas – Always in Our Hearts
My family and I would like to greet one and all a Merry, Happy Christmas! A Christmas made happy not only by carols, tinsels, gifts, and temporary delusions, but a Christmas made happy with inner peace, contentment, and with all the love oozing in our hearts, a Christmas that would last days, and months, and years after. A Christmas that is always in our hearts!
A cliché? Ambitious? Difficult to perceive? I have always believed that a true child of God should always be joyful. No matter what happens, there is always reason to rejoice because the big things are taken care of, and that is His promise.
All I Want for Christmas
Just for fun, I asked each member of the family to tell me his/her Christmas wish, anything, be it outrageous, or impossible or funny, which I am sharing with you.
Monica (23 years old, law student): a Tiffany necklace, good grades and a star for the Christmas tree. (Oh well, she says the cheapest Tiffany necklace would do for a gift, as long as it’s Tiffany. But then, the cheapest one is not cheap at all. As to grades, only she can give herself the good grades she wants, can’t buy one. On second thoughts, she has been getting good grades already, maybe she wants better grades. As for the Christmas tree, everyone has been looking for the star. Care to send us one?).
BA (18 years old, UP student): my own car, even if it is old, or very old! or new! even an owner type jeepney. So that I do not have to ride the ikot jeepney (called TOKI) from the Stat building to the Math Building in UP. (Instead of a car, he got a new pair of Nike shoes, to encourage him to run his way to school, and from one building to another in UP. Cool!)
Vincent (17 years old, high school student): I don’t know, mom, am still very sleepy. (And it’s 12 noon! I know, I guess, Vince would wish for “sleep”, lots and lots of it. He has to catch up on sleep. If ever you catch him at home, he’s asleep. He just has so many activities in school, with friends, with Steph, that he cannot really manage his time. I cannot think of anything else, as yet. He has already gotten his most wanted 2007 Starbucks Planner (21 stickers, meaning 21 cups of Starbucks coffee for a planner), and another one for Steph (meaning another 21 stickers). He now has 8 stickers (meaning 13 more stickers for another planner) which he plans to give to one of his siblings, the one who will promise to cherish it and maximize its use. He has already been allowed to drive, but with either his dad or Angelo there to give him tips. His dad has promised to give him lessons which the driving school has not taught, or has not taught enough this Christmas break. He already has an iPod video (he had to shell more than 5 thousand bucks from his savings to get the video instead of a nano). Now what more could he ask for this year, when most of what he has wished for have already been granted.)
Angela (15 years old, high school student): A tiara. I have always wanted to own one. Remember the fancy ones we saw at Tiendesitas? I’d like to have one, Mom! (How can I not wish I had bought her one? It’s a joy to see the twinkle in her eyes, even for such a simple, inexpensive gift. Angela, Chato as we fondly call her, has never wished for anything out of this world, or anything expensive. Her Bratz doll gives her joy, so does playing SIMS on the computer, and being with her theater mates in school. She does not even have an i-Pod!).
Pauline “the Paulinator” (13 years old, high school student): I don’t know mom! I just woke up, and all I right now want is to eat breakfast. (I now remember, Pau got her advanced Christmas gift a few weeks ago. She was able to convince me to buy her a 2G iPod shuffle on the week these were released worldwide, with a promise to get high grades. Her siblings were kidding her – had she waited a few weeks longer, she should have gotten an iPod Nano, the color of her choice. At least she can say that she was among the first in the world to own a 2G iPod shuffle).
Alan, Jr. (10 years old, grade school student): A cellphone, so that I could send text messages to mom, and dad, and Chato, and BA, and Angelo, and Pau, and Vince, and Mox. (He got his Nokia 1112 yesterday. In exchange, he volunteered to pay, he gave his ATM card to his dad to withdraw P2,000. By the way, he had extra money in this ATM account because my husband inadvertently deposited some money in this account instead to mine. Actually it used to be his dad’s ATM card, they have the same name, remember. Since owning the Nokia 1112, he enrolled in Globe’s UNLIMITXT, and has been happily sending SMSs to all of us. Alan, Jr. also wants to be able to buy nice gifts for baby Pia and Baby Catie, Angelo’s and Caren’s tiny tots.)
Angelo (economist, blogger, The J Spot): world peace! Money for every one, so that people do not need to fight over money. That’s peace. That’s the word from our economist, our blogger.
Caren (Angelo’s wife, pre-school teacher): a nice comfortable sofa. (She must have really been tired fixing the old sofa, which will have to retire pretty soon. The sofa still looks new, but if one happens to sit in the wrong place, he/she would be eaten alive by the sofa, and vanish from the face of the earth.)
Pia and Cate (Angelo’s and Caren’s babies, Pia will be 4 in June and Cate will be 2 in January): Angelo speaking on their behalf “Lola, we want a new TV set, a big one.” (Go, Angelo! We’re giving Baby Pia and Baby Cate lots of hugs and kisses, the whole year round!)
Mommylola (my mom, as she is fondly called by the kids, 67 years old): world peace! (Oh, Mommylola, we will just wish for you, instead! We wish you good health, long life, and the tenacity to endure us all in the family. Mommylola has lovingly taken care of the 7 kids when I was still holding a full time job).
Alan, my husband: A portable Altec Lansing speakers or an equivalent sound quality which I will place inside our room. And a house of our own. (Ditto, I say, we have been paying a huge sum, a real huge amount, for house rental. We always felt that it was ok to rent a house here in Quezon City, a few minutes away from the Ateneo, Miriam College, UP and Claret School where our kids go to school instead of owning one in, say Antipolo or Paranaque. We didn’t want the hassle of our kids cruising through traffic in going to school. Going to school is a breeze for them, except that now, Monica is in Law School, at Ateneo in Rockwell. Our next target – a house in Quezon City. As for the Altec Lansing speakers, BA found a solution. He bought a jack to connect his Dad’s mp3 player to our component. And it only cost around P42)
Me: a MacBook, my very own! If I don’t get one this Christmas, I promise to get myself one on my birthday, in February. Eat your heart out, Angelo! And if I do not get the MacBook on my birthday, I will wait for the next Christmas, and the next birthday, until I get it. I won’t settle for anything less. Oh, when will I get my MacBook?
A FUN Year!
2006 has been a FUN year for the family. There may have been ups and downs, real DOWNs and real UPs, but the bottom line is, the Racoma Family, our family, has always survived each year. The Lord God has been so good, we are so blessed! And we are thankful. We wish the same for all of you.

[...] Christmas is just a few days away. I can imagine people in a shopping frenzy, rushing to get presents for their loved ones. First, I would like to ask all of you what you want for Christmas. My mom’s doing a Christmas Wishlist and one of the things she’s planning to do is ask all our blogosphrends (okay, bad mashup of “blogosphere” and “friends”) what the want for Christmas. So I’d appreciate it if you can send your Christmas wishlists my way, either through the comment form below or via email (jangelo at racoma dot net). [...]
Dear Dine,
Thank you very much for giving me an opportunity to share your excellent website! Also thanks for let me know your very good family. Marry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and you family.

Hi dine,
Tks for including me on your list. I enjoy reading everything. Wishing you and your family the BEST FOR THIS SEASON.
[...] 2 days after Christmas and 10 days since I last posted. Well, I’ve been busy. Busy sleeping, that is. My Mom figured that it’s my Christmas wish. And I guess she’s right, I got what I’ve wanted: Starbucks 2007 planner (which I got by the second week of November) and another one, and yet, a third one. An iPod. My license. And clothes. [...]
[...] A Macbook – My Christmas Wish What came to sight was my Christmas Wish – a Macbook! I was not only amazed when the surgeon opened a Macbook to show pictures documenting the surgery; I was impressed! I couldn’t help myself saying, “That’s what I wanted for myself as a Christmas gift!,” seemingly forgetting Monica at the moment. [...]
