Living up to the Ignatian Tradition

Yesterday 29 July at 3 pm, our family attended the Mass for the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola at the Ateneo High School Covered Courts. It was a moving experience, with the community of the whole Jesuit family, friends, alumni, students and benefactors, estimated (mine) to be about 3,000, in attendance. About 50 Jesuit priests were there, including religious from different parts of the world. At the end of the Mass, Jesuit priests who have been in the priesthood for 50 and 60 years have been honored. Free snacks, drinks and carts of “dirty” ice cream were abundant, which the young and the adults enjoyed.

The actual feast is on 31 July. There will be no classes.

My affiliation with the Ateneo started in the 80’s when my husband and I started with the MBA program. I stopped after 1 semester, started having a family, and it was only in 2004 that I decided to start all over again, to finally graduate in 2006.

I have entrusted my boys with the Jesuits where, especially in high school, the boys are taught the 5Cs.

An Atenean

This is inspired by the Ignatian tradition and guided by Ignatian pedagogy which aims to mold young men into future leaders who will serve the Filipino society and contribute to the global community.

Thanks to the Ateneo, my boys continue to live up to this tradition.

My eldest daughter is also studying at the Ateneo—in Law School at Rockwell.

And look what we bought: T-shirts which we will wear in the next Ateneo games. Ateneo lost to FEU a while ago, but win or lose, IT’S THE SCHOOL WE CHOOSE.

Yes, agree ako. Ang sarap maging Atenista (kahit college na nga lang). An Atenista is and will always be “a man for others”. BTW, Ateneo basketball has a soft spot in my heart for 2 reasons…first, I was on the first women’s team (center)...second, I used to date “the” center of the men’s team (uaap champs of that year but won’t say)...hahaha :)

mom, sabi nga sa homily ni fr. dacanay

“when ateneo wins, we talk about how great the game was, or kung gaano kagaling si chris tiu. but when ateneo loses, we talk about the deeper meaning of life.”

    haha parang ikaw!

Keep moving Ateneans not only in sports!

When the path becomes difficult, that’s no reason to give up. In fact, it means you’re making real progress.
The mountain becomes more rugged and steep the closer you get to the summit. Keep going, keep climbing, keep making the effort, and soon you’ll find yourself reaching the top.

The challenges you encounter are unquestionable proof that you’re making a positive difference. Make use of those challenges, not as an excuse to stop, but rather as a platform from which to push forward.

For the greatest achievements come in response to the greatest challenges. When the going gets rough, you are most certainly in the presence of profound opportunity.

When there is much that must be done, there is enormous value waiting to be created. Step boldly forward and claim that value.

Whatever may come, whatever may seem to block your path, choose to keep moving. There are truly magnificent rewards just on the other side of your persistent efforts.
