Keeping together ONE big happy family–HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!

Today is my husband’s 54th birthday. He does not really look like he is 54. Everyone in the family agrees that he looks like he is only 53 years old! He may be the youngest in his family of 5, even perhaps their big baby, pronounced as “Bibi” in Bicolano. But in my family, HE IS THE HEAD. Every family needs one—to keep order in the family.
Whatever he says, the family can only say, “Yes, Dad”, even though it is not a 100% “yes”. Even though it is in total disagreement of what the other or others have in mind. Because everyone knows that all too soon, there will be agreement. After some kind of space or time, someone realizes that he or she is wrong, and says “sorry’. That is how it is in my family, that is how it is with father-son, father-daughter, sibling-sibling, mother-son, mother-daughter, wife-husband relationships. Communications have to be open, even if the situation becomes difficult at times.
My husband is the disciplinarian in the family. He says he has to do it, even if it hurts sometimes. He is our “blog moderator”. He tends to say “slow down” or “stop” or even “delete”, when things get out of hand, but gives high praises when due. Oh well, this is perhaps what my family needs to preserve balance. I am his opposite. What happens if we are both disciplinarians—where is the breathing space? What happens then if we are both lax—when will the kids know when to pause or stop?
In my family, the kids need a father as much as they need a mother, in the same way as my husband and I need each other. It’s almost 28 years, and we have never given up on each other. If we had not held on to our marriage vows, and continue to hold on, where would our family be now? This may be unsolicited advice to the newly marrieds or the struggling couples—DO NOT GIVE UP! Marriage has to work—both partners have to try their best, for their sake and for the children’s.
Going back to my husband, he is the family’s pillar for all things spiritual. Each night, he gathers all of us together to pray the Rosary and to say our thanks to the good Lord, who has showered us with blessings all through the years. A shining example of where this leads to is our son, Angelo, who has his own family now. Every night, he also leads his family for prayers, and everyday they go to church to hear Mass. Our family has been through a lot the past many years, financial struggles several years ago, a recent death in the family, Angela’s thyroid problem for which she is completely healed now, Monica’s appendectomy on Christmas day, etc., but we held on to each other, we held on to our faith. There is the truth in the saying that goes, “A family that prays together stays together”.
From all of us—Angelo (and wife Caren, and babies Pia and Cate), Monica, BA, Vince, Chato, Pau, Alan Jr (did I miss any one of my precious “7”?), and me, HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! May you be continuously blessed with good health, yes with wealth, joy, peace, hope, love and many many more. I am sure Michael looks down from heaven sending you his angelic flying kisses. WE LOVE YOU!

Did I read marry, marry more? Of course I will marry, marry you more on our 30th, 35th, 40th, 45th and 50th anniversary. Thank you sweetheart for the kind words. We were not born rich but the greatest inheritance that we got from our parents is the gift of faith. I always tell our children to choose a partner who has strong faith and love of GOD and they will never go wrong. Sabi ko nga, sa’yo hindi ako takot but sa Diyos takot na takot ako (lol).
Love and kisses

happy birthday to the pillar of the family
Praying the rosary together as a family is admirable. It’s something that we try to do but somehow things get in the way. I salute you. Happy birthday to the blog moderator.
Hello Mr.A.Racoma,
Another year is a happy gift,
So cut your cake, and say,
“Instead of counting birthdays,
I count blessings every day!”
WE get the chance
To wish you birthday cheer.
It pleases us no end to say,
WE wish you another great year.
So happy birthday to you Mr. Alan Racoma,
From the bottom of our heart.
And may your good times multiply,
Till they’re flying off the chart!
