Happy birthday to one of my youngest fans, Therese “Tetet” (and to her Mom–TET, too).
Fatherless at 3 and 1
.
Tetet was was barely 3 while her sister, another fan of mine, Jazmine “Jet-Jet” was 1 year and 3 months old when Leland, their Dad, at 40 years old became ill and died. My cousin, Tet, then 35 though grief stricken, managed pretty well to raise her 2 young daughters, despite the challenges of coping up with the loss of a husband that she loved so much, making the 2 young girls understand that their father had gone to heaven, not to anymore return, and single-handedly raising them. Tet always tells them that their Dad is their guardian angel, looking after them, protecting them. They still talk fondly of their Dad, believing that he is looking after them in his own relaxed way.
Now, Tetet is 13 (yehey! a teenager!), a young Filipina, is quite reserved, took after her Dad, a consistent honor student, and is into competitions–declamation, math quiz bee, journalism, oral reading, bringing her to regional competitions. She is also ito dancing (hip-hop, jazz and street dancing).
Jet-Jet is 11, and being the youngest is very sweet and considerate to her Mom, Ate Tetet, Tita Mel and their Lola (my mother’s sister). She is relaxed, a good singer, and a fashionista. She likes beaded clothes and denim and colored pants.
Two Sisters
If Tetet is a snob, Jet-Jet is the sociable one. If Tetet wants to be a flight stewardess someday and wants to tour the world, Jet-Jet wants to be a chef. How she loves to cook and eat! They both read my blogs regularly.
At home, they are happy, just snuggled together watching their favorite TV shows like Hanna Montana, High School Musicale, Barbie Movies, The Suite Life of ZacK & Cody, Wizards of Waverly Place, and That’s So Raven. Like any typical young girls, they like to go malling and spend their summers in White Beach at Puerto Galera.
An Advice to Single Mothers
Tet, as a single mother, has the good Lord to thank for—the blessings of her 2 daughters, a mother and sister to look after her girls when she is away at work and business trips, and a good job. She has this advice to single mothers like her—Don’t grieve for long (there’s nothing much you can do anymore), focus on your children, take care of yourselves and have time for yourselves. Always keep cool and beautiful from within and out. Tet’s friends and her daughter’s teachers call her “The beautiful and Cool Mom !” And at the end of the day, acknowledge His greatness through prayer.
HAPPY 13th BIRTHDAY, TETET!!! and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COUSIN TET!!! May you both have your heart’s desire on this your special day. May you and your family continue to be blessed. May you remain as loving and beautiful as you both are. May all your wishes come true, and many many more. Super God bless. (Love from all of us and Mommylola).
