Happy 20th Birthday, BA!

Today BA turns 20, but it seems just like it was only recently
When he came into this world—a bundle of joy, yes, literally
Someone that the stork would not even manage to carry
What can you call a baby 9 pounds and 8 ounces—too heavy!
What a surprise it was to everyone when all too suddenly
It was found out that soon there would be another baby
And BA at 1-1/2 year old was a “kuya” already
We all wondered—would there be any sibling rivalry?
After 1-1/2 years, a baby sister was born to the family
Then another sister after 2 years, others thought it was funny
When after 3 years a brother was born, twas a shock to many
At 8 years old, BA had 2 elder and 4 younger siblings already!
As BA grew up we didn’t realize that he was as shy as could be
We could not believe it until his teachers confirmed the reality
What to do? He had to have self-esteem. What is the remedy?
No one knew, but everyone tried to encourage him daily.
Until he was made to join a street dance group in grade 3
The many rehearsals here and there for the Christmas party
Or his new found liking for dance, his body moving freely
Must have made him forget to blush and just be merry
There was no stopping him from there, he made history
When he got the lead role for a school play held annually
At the Ateneo Children’s Theater, for us, almost a prodigy
We could not contain our heart’s delight—sheer glee.
A complete turn-around, in high school he was in Section B
Ateneo High School’s honors section for math, oh gee!
All through the 4 years, learned the 5 C’s, lived them truly
Inspired by the Ignatian tradition, guided by Ignatian pedagogy.
From high school, he passed the UPCAT and ACET, wasn’t he lucky?
Though it was a big dilemma-Ateneo or UP, he thought seriously
He loved the Ateneo, but at the last minute he let go and told me
“Mom will you allow me if I decide go to UP?”.
“Go to UP, an Atenean fits in here”, he advises his brother, Beany
Who is in the same dilemma that BA had been into previously
Not much adjusting in lifestyle is needed, no need to change, really
How to convince that UP has a lot to offer other than security.
BA is now a well rounded person, literally and figuratively
He has come to my rescue a lot of times too many
Remember how he was the first to defend his sexy mommy
Then came the Filipina Images—I am part of the advocacy.
.
Now BA is happy
jolly, carefree
a child of God, firstly
a man of others in UP
at 20!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BA! HAPPY 20TH!
WE LOVE YOU!
