Today 19 March, sweet 16 daughter Angela (Chato to many), turns 17. Sweet, just the same, but somehow something has changed—not much, but it’s there. One year has added a bit of, shall we say, wisdom. More of caring for friends and family. More of being aware of the happenings around her, more empathy, perhaps? And yes, a little bit more of independence.
But even then, she still has her brothers to look after her, to check on where she’s going, on the company she keeps, on pictures posted at Multiply, on the time she needs to be home—oh well, the advantages, rather disadvantages (?) of having brothers, older and younger, to humor, to have fun with, for driving service, or just for company. And her brothers have taught her the secret to the Rubik’s cube—cool, she can now solve it in less than a minute. Sometimes, rather than for me to learn what she has been up to, second hand, from her siblings, she would volunteer the information herself. It’s like telling her siblings, “I already know”. Angela has never been angry, but she could remain quiet when she’s bothered or irritated.
She also has her sisters, older and younger, to keep company, to share secrets with, clothes and shoes with—though there’s a silent rule among them: you can borrow only if the shoes, clothes or accessories have been used by the owner at least once, and one can borrow only after asking permission: in advance by saying it so, by phone, or by texting. Yes, the silent rule prevails, though at times it is broken. With that, I let them fix things among themselves, I do not interfere.
Angela loves her friends so much, and she is well loved in return. She loves her music, at times she’s senti. She loves her acting, sometimes she’s emo. Yes, she’s as sweet as can be, though secretive at times. At 17—she will be in fourth year high, to enjoy the peak of being a teenager.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANGELA (if you call her Chato, it means you are already close to her)...HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHATO! We love you.

Biking at the Quezon Memorial Circle : The D Spot // May 19, 2008 at 3:55 am
[...] Chato, Alan Jr and I decided to go to Quezon Memorial Circle for our usual bike ride. Compared to other days, there were less people this time, I wondered why ( I heard later that there was a storm, signal no 1 in Manila and 3 in some parts in the North.). It was thus more fun to have the whole stretch of the biking lane all to ourselves and a handful of others, with only 1 or 2 going against the flow. [...]
