PGMA’s SONA@4pm, 28 July 2008–a flicker of hope to a nation in crisis?

UPDATES
54 minutes, with 102 applauses in between, PGMA delivered her SONA, in front of the members of the Senate, House of Representatives, Diplomatic Corps, and the general public.

I listened keenly to PGMA’s talk, watched with interest how her programs supported by facts, figures, and real people, seemed to show good promise. She admitted that she had an all-time low in terms of popularity. Certainly, her speechwriters did well, with the powerpoint presentations to prove her point.

For a while, I believed, and until now I am clinging to a flicker of hope that amidst the global crisis, amidst the nation’s crisis, we as a nation need someone who could lead us out of this, or at least keep us all together, and for the nation not to break down. At this point in time, there is no other, except her–except PGMA, despite all the corruption charges against her and her cohorts. Let them go through due process, support the charges with facts. Right now, we need a figure head–let us not wish for a change in government, let us just wait for the next election if we want a new leader. Let us do our share, continue to be vigilant, do what we can, and hopefully soon, our nation will be truly great again.

And yes–I will have to check if indeed, texting, which PGMA calls a Filipino way of life, now costs only P0.50.

Pau (one of my kids):  Babagyo ba?

BA (another of my kids):  oo, mamayang 4 pm, babagyo ng mga pangako–sa SONA. bwahahahaha

At 4 pm, President GMA will address the nation for her 9th annual State of the Nation Address. The people are wary, even the young ones are wary, to be able to speak this way. Each year, we listen to promises after promises, which are quantified the year after, with success rates, figures, pictures, and many others, painting very good pictures of the administration’s achievements. The question is, are they felt? Are they seen?  Are they enjoyed by the general public?

Look here (reference:  2 page spreads in major newspapers for the last few days–the cost could have fed a lot of hungry mouths, I think).

2002: Strong Republic
2003: Labanan ang Terorismo at Kahirapan
2004: Mamayan Muna
2005: Lasting Change
2006: Super Regions
2007: Invest…Invest…
2008:  WHAT NOW?

No matter how the PR agencies and the administration press paint it, there are still a lot more others who say otherwise. Amidst the global crisis that has surged the past few weeks, let’s listen to what she has to say now.

My guess is as good as yours.
