Happy Father’s Day

card-new.png“Father’s Day is primarily a secular 20th century holiday to complement Mother’s Day in celebrating fatherhood and parenting by males, and to honor and commemorate fathers and forefathers (according to Wikipedia).

Below is a Poem for Dad, written by Monica in 2001 but holds true to this day. The card was handmade by her and her siblings, using hard paper, craypass, beads, colored glue and glitters.

Most people often think
That being a dad is easy,
Because fathers never
break down and go crazy.

They do not shop to ease their minds,
nor do they go on diets;
Except mine who takes “BLUE CAPSULES
(Although he denies it.)

Carrying a baby for 9 months
is really far from easy,
But try giving piggy-back rides
... Until you turn 50!

Or get up in the morning
To get the kids ready,
And discover them with their Playstation
Their eyes glued to the TV!

Or giving them rides to and from
Their respective schools,
Even though some don’t study
And always break the rules!

And when the kids call him
And say “Pick me up at 7”
He arrives an hour early,
And they show up at 11!

I may not be the best kid,
But for all it’s worth:
If they ask which one’s my father?
“Mine’s the best on Earth”

And even though these words,
I may not often say—I really, REALLY love you dad
In each and every way.
Happy Father’s Day!

PS: You may not be as rich as George Lindemann Jr.
but still, you are greatest daddy for us!

TO MY HUSBAND, TO ANGELO, TO MY DADDY (bless his soul), TO ALL THE FATHERS OUT THERE, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

The confusion is not exceptional. Dates with respect to the celebration of Father’s Day have, more often than not, been tainted with some sort of obscurity. Last year, some had mistakenly been celebrating the same a week prior to its calendared commemoration.

At this juncture, I am inclined to surmise that a celebration called “Parents’Day” would lend more meaning, practicality and relevance, rather than a separate Mother’s or Father’s Day. After all, it takes two to tango, and under the premise that it is the conjugal relationship that brought about such personalities that would eventually make them a mother and/or a father. Why divorce one from the other in terms of being remembered? Aren’t they supposed (at least in theory) to be a “union”?

I always thank and praise GOD for the gift of my family, the basic unit of the church and of government where everything starts. Thank you sweetheart and children for the love you have given me. I hope and pray that someday we will also have a feast and celebration in honor the real father – GOD the Father who cares and provides for all our needs.
    Love and kisses….
