A Happy Family Moment

Let me share with you not only a happy mommy moment, but a happy family moment as well (friends celebrated with us, too). Our daughter, Angela Marie (fondly called Chato) passed the UPCAT (UP College Admission Test)—BS Family & Child Development. A few days ago, we got the results for USTET (UST Entrance Test)—BS Psychology for which she passed, and for ACET (Ateneo College Entrance Test) for which she was waitlisted.

Each result received were emotional moments. We were both crying when I told her that she was waitlisted for Ateneo, crying for joy we could not contain ourselves. Being waitlisted, for us, was as good as getting admission after going through a formal process. She had a school, one of her dream schools, she almost didn’t want to hear anymore about UPCAT, especially also that a few days later, we learned that she passed the USTET, a good school for the sciences, preparatory to Medicine.

Chato’s Happiest Moment in Her Life

Early Saturday morning, I got this comment from my ACET/UPCAT post (thanks Alex Sison, a Reader), that the results have been released and that Chato passed. Imagine the excitement in a large household. I woke up Chato who literally fell out of bed, and everyone else. This was one of the happiest moments in my family—I saw how supportive all my kids were, hugging her, hugging each other, jumping in joy almost in tears, going online telling their friends. Even the doggies were joining the excitement, the neighbors must have woken up. After about 15 minutes, Chato sat down and theatrically announced that omg! it was sinking in, sinking in—she passed UPCAT! And both of us were crying, hugging each other, delayed reaction as compared to the excitement with ACET. For Chato, passing UPCAT is the happiest moment in her life, so far. And we thanked the good Lord in prayer.

Dreaming Big Dreams

This is her first step to her big dream of becoming a doctor (a pediatrician) someday. She loves children so much, such that every Sunday, no matter how tired she was the previous day, she would come with me and my two other children (BA and Alan, Jr) to CRIBS for her 2-hour voluntary time with children who have been abandoned by their parents. At 17, she is very much at home tending to infants, crawlers and toddlers.

So Proud of You, Our Children and We Thank God!

To Chato (and her cousin TinTin) and all you out there who passed, our congratulations. Thank you Chat—all your years of hard work in school are paying off. Chato will be the fourth in the family who will go to UP for college (Angelo—graduated BS Economics, and a semester away from his Master’s Degree, BA—third year in BS Applied Physics, and Vince—first year BS Business Administration). Angelo’s wife, Caren, is also from UP, with the same course as Chato. Our other daughter Monica will be graduating from the Ateneo Law School in March and take the Bar Exams in September. It will be Pauline’s turn next year for the UPCAT, while our youngest son, Alan Jr, among the top in his class, too, will be graduating from grade school in Claret. He will try out for Ateneo High School—we know he will make it.

Yes, the family is still blue at heart (a family of Ateneans), even though now there is a good mix of maroon (go UP!).

My husband and I are so proud of our children, and we thank the good Lord for blessing us with 7 children, who we love so much, and who are all shaping up to be good citizens and wonderful children of God.
