One day from now, it will be 2009—we will say good-bye to 2008 and welcome the New Year.
In doing so, let me thank the good Lord for the abundant blessings He has bestowed to my family— not really of the material, but of the intangibles: abundance in grace, in love, in friendships, in health and in so many things, that my cup spilleth over. Because no matter what, after almost 29 years, our family is whole, it is complete—HIM being the center of our lives.
From my family to yours, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Our family is living proof that everyday is a miracle, for there is no day that passed in our lives that we were let down, even if at times the solution to a dilemma came at the last minute. Bringing up a large family is no mean feat, but I have always been fine. I am always hopeful, positive, to the point of blind faith—that tomorrow, a new day, will always be bright.
Hope for our country
Same perhaps for a country, the large part of which forms people who have less or nothing in life, so used to having so little or none, there is only HOPE to cling to. The newspapers say that 9 out of 10 Filipinos look forward to the New Year with hope rather than fear—hope springs eternal in the Filipino heart. I am apt to ask, is this hope genuine hope? Is it the perceived hope for the hopeless?
Politicians, leaders in government, scrupulous businessmen—please take heed! While many of you wallow in wealth (what pleasurable sensation it must be!) take a look at those who live in poverty, what more, extreme poverty through no fault of their own (or is this the situation that you have so carefully plotted through the years—so that the poor can no longer complain, that they just be content with the morsels, suffer, perish, and be doomed to perdition).
Fellow countrymen, let’s do our share, even in our small way, in fighting graft and corruption, the country’s biggest problem. Let us also be sensitive to the needs of those who have less in life. Let us also work for peace in our land.
Let this post not ruin your New Year’s Day celebration, our New Year’s Day celebration—we deserve to celebrate. Let it be a food for thought, a seed if nurtured will bear good fruit.
Let’s welcome the New Year with HOPE in our hearts!
