Here’s sharing with you an Easter musing—I’ll be with you…but not yet, from Kuya G, Chaplain of a large medical center. He calls himself a secret fan of The D Spot (I am humbled).
Remember the last scene of the movie ‘Gladiator’? When, Juma, Maximus’s African friend, bid the great gladiator farewell? He said something like “I’ll be with you..but not yet.” Having recovered from a stroke last February, I feel much better when somehow I can echo the sentiment of Juma’s “well, not yet.” The doctors told me I was really lucky the stroke was not massive, and my friends teased me I must have been masamang damo to be able to escape death yet again. It’s Good Friday, my friends, and we are told to make sacrifices (as if we haven’t sacrificed enough all these years?), to bear with the heat and join the Station of the Cross (and many are willingly nailed to the cross!), and yes, to have pasyal, er, pilgrimage during Visita Iglesia..It’s not yet Easter. But as we continue to learn to rise above our weaknesses to confront evil in the face and to live another day, we know it’s another stage of our journey towards Easter. Every time we realize that we are not finished yet, that there is something more decent, beautiful and loving that we can do as a person, a people and a nation, then it’s another Easter morning that we wake up to everyday.
Yes, I feel that we are like gladiators sometimes, surrounded by seemingly invincible forces, we have to prevail or perish. We’ll prevail when we work together and put all our resources for the common good. Our prize? Freedom, pride and renewed hope. My friends, this year please get yourself a well-deserved Easter gift. More than just a cute Easter Bunny, try to have a good laugh at all those past fights we had with each other; participate to celebrate the birth of a new child in the neighborhood (or better, visit and volunteer for CRIBS!); let’s support Joy Rojas’ Takbong Pangarap and get real high even when you can do only one mile run or walk for her worthy cause.. Ask and listen to Ate D about the joy of living, loving, learning and sharing!
Once you start pushing that big stone that keeps us in the tomb of our fear or selfish convenience, we’ll start rolling and with Starship (my musical idol from the 1980s) we can hum again…Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, Baby!

Hi Ate D. i’m a fan… i just stumbled upon your site today while trying to finish my writing jobs over the internet. I really admire this reflection about Easter Sunday, you presented it lightly yet conveyed a message that is really hard-hitting. Hope many people will see the beauty of life through our works. I am new in the field of writing and im working as a reporter of a Catholic newspaper here in Davao City—the Davao Catholic Herald. I would love to hear and read some more thoughts from you. God Bless you.
