I have kept this secret from my family, as I did not want them to get worried. Only my mom and another good friend knew that my eyesight was failing. It has been more than 6 months now, and it has come to a point that I could not anymore see clearly from a distance. I had laser surgery more than 15 years ago to correct my nearsightedness, and my eyes were okay until a year ago. Then slowly, my vision started to degenerate. I had a check up only once the past year—that was when I still could see well. I must have been too busy for another check up or was in denial to bother.
Yes, I use reading glasses, normal at my age, but I also noticed that the grade was not anymore enough. And to think that I just had a change of reading glasses a few months ago. A few days ago, I took out my dad’s “trial case”—a set of lenses that an optometrist uses for manual grading of eyesight. I mimicked what my dad (bless his soul) did when he was examining his patients. I was a little girl then. Computerized examination of the eyes were not known of at that time yet. And voila, I found the right lenses (from a grade of 250 to 350 for reading). My mom said, “anak ka talaga ng tatay mo” (you are your dad’s daughter), and we reminisced the times when he was still alive and lived with us. I promised myself to go to the EENT next week to get a new pair of reading glasses, in the meantime, I ceased to wear my old reading glasses and wore the antique trial glasses while working on the computer and reading. My kids could only laugh at how I look and remind me to go get a new pair of glasses asap.
Until a while ago, before going to church, I picked up a CD of the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy that my husband’s side of the family produced and continues to propagate. I planned to send it to Hongkong for further copying and distribution.
After the Consecration, when I opened my eyes, I just found myself amidst a bright light—the Church’s lights, and I could see perfectly well. I could clearly see the priest and the people, up to the other side of the Church. It was the miracle I have been praying for—I really wanted my eyesight back. At that moment, I told Monica about it, tears blurring my sight. It has been 8 hours now, I have watched the Olympic games on TV without difficulty, and for reading, I am back to my old glasses.
I am not surprised, as a lot of miracles have happened and continue to happen to me and my family. Yes, the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy is a powerful prayer—I was just planning to propagate it without asking for anything in return, and look what I got back, my eyesight! I can attest to a lot of miracles in the family, big and small, that have happened since we started praying it. GOD IS INDEED GREAT! And I can only thank Him for loving me despite all my faults and weaknesses. HE never fails.

Dine, I am not saying there is no miracle…am sure it is a miracle.
But sometimes I get blurring of vision because of my high blood sugar. After a few days, it goes back to normal. High blood sugar can affect vision kasi.

Everyday is a day of miracle and a gift.
My eldest son told me this, “Life’s a Gift… Live each day as a thank you note.”
