Today, 1 October is the feast day of Saint Thérèse de Lisieux, a Roman Catholic Carmelite nun, who was canonized as a saint on 17 May 1925 by Pope Pius XI. She is also popularly known as The Little Flower of Jesus. She was born in 1873, died at the age of 24 and was canonized as a saint 28 years later. She is the Patron Saint of aviators, people with AIDS, florists, illnesses and missions.

St. Thérèse had a devotion and very special love to Mama Mary. She wrote prayers, poetry, and plays as a way to glorify God. She shows us that even in the very ordinary things that we do each day, if we do them with love of Jesus, we can be holy and pleasing in His eyes. What is important is not the position we hold in life, but how we make good use of the position God has given us. She also teaches us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength.

We attended the last of the Triduum Masses at the Carmel of St. Thérèse along Gilmore Avenue, QC, officiated by the Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, and a couple of other priests. by  I remember going to this Church a few years back when the relics of St. Thérèse were brought there. While inside the church, i had this eerie feeling that the place was a holy place (though all churches should be this way) where the holy priests, nuns, and laity tread. I had this feeling like I was transported in time a hundred years ago, in a place devoid of materialism, grandstanding, and negative energy, a place full of spirituality that one is inspired to write about so many good things and waxes poetic, and the Mass so solemn that I felt His love enveloping my whole being.

After the Mass, the devotees had the chance to venerate the relics of St. Thérèse. Each was given a rose blessed earlier from the many bouquets of roses that surrounded her statue. Here is mine.
